Doodle Dogs Abandoned At Alarming Rates

Last year when we adopted Getty and Maisie we saw dogs and cats abandoned at the shelter parking lot because no room inside.

Here, people just leave them during the night because they are too cheap to pay the drop off fee.

They do here too, although one reason is there is no longer any room for cats or dogs so when people are turned away they just drop them in parking lot.
Just over a year ago we got the 2 new dogs from the shelter. It was packed and lot was full of strays, especially cats.
My mother used to pick up stray cats and dogs off the roads.
We had 100 acres in the woods in Stone Mountain Ga.
She ended up taking most to the pound, they were having more babies and fighting, etc, etc, where she realized it was too much plus many had the mange we treated then with burnt motor oil, can't do that now too many chemicals in the oil.

I think some people are giving up pets because they don't have enough money to take care of them. So it kind of makes sense that they wouldn't have the money to pay dropoff fees. Sad for the animals and for the people sometimes.
It sure is sad for both. It makes you feel bad walking thru the kennel, all of them jumping and begging for you to let them out. You feel kind of quilty just taking a couple, but that's all we could handle.
We got some great dogs from shelters over the years. These two we got last year were like they were special ordered for us. great watch dogs and both had some training from whoever their previous owner was. The Dogo is real 'excitable though, but what a great dog.

Most of the dogs that end up in the shelter here are pit bull type of dogs, or some cross of that. Any kind of Doodle is still selling for well over $1,000, for the most part, and if they end up in the shelter, they are adopted right away, especially if it is a smaller Poodle cross.
I think that the only ones I have seen on the shelter website were ones who had somehow gotten out and got lost or impounded , and they are usually back in their homes as soon as the owners find them.

We have a cavapoo which is a cross between a cavalier (mother) and poodle father).. We adopted him when he was 4 months old and he is now almost 3 years old.. He is the most affectionate pooch I have ever owned..
In some places they call it a cavadoodle................. whatever ...

Many reasons for Doodle dogs in shelters, like people losing their homes, dying or moving into nursing homes.
We adopt large dogs for guarding the place.
Got two more great ones 14 months ago. Very expensive dogs if bought by breeder, Gerry a 2 yr old Dogo Argentino and a 1 yr old Goldie. Great watch dogs, never would've thought a Goldie would be such a great watch dog.
