This excellent historical documentary brings us up to date including the recent Standing Rock oil pipeline protests. The writer points out flaws as well as what is right in the movie. He extrapolates it all to recent times. I learned a lot from this one hour. My experience with Indians has been mainly with the Klamath Indians when I lived in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I was attending one of the best technical schools in the country - Oregon Institute Of Technology. Without going into particulars, I wasn't greatly impressed by the tribe. They had sold or otherwise lost all their traditional land. Many had gotten rich from federal reparations largesse and lost it quickly with drugs, expensive cars, jewelry and other foolish waste. Almost without exception the men had huge bulging stomachs and spindly legs. The women were all fat except for the very young. From this video I think I'd rather have known the Lakota Sioux or other plains Indians.
Well I don't blame them for going off the rails, its bloomin' hard being classed as 'different' As a nation, they are respected by me at least PS - 'bulging stomachs and spindly legs' applies to a vast number of whites too
I was writing about the Klamaths only, not about all Indians, of whom I've not observed those negative things. I knew when I wrote that that I'd be seen as prejudiced against them. It was my true opinion from experience, though. ... not much I can do about that. Should I try to see all Indians as noble for the sake of political correctness? I'm not doing that.
My favorite scene from "Dances With Wolves", was when Lieutenant Dunbar was making friends with the wolf that had been hanging around his post. The wolf's extremely cautious attitude toward Dunbar when he was being offered a piece of food was absolutely precious! Hal
I really like the performances of Kevin Costner, Mary McDonnell, Graham Greene, Rodney A. Grant, Floyd "Red Crow" Westerman, Wes Studi and Steve Reevis. Greene, Grant, Westerman, Stui and Reevis all are at least part Native American. Both Graham Green and Steve Reevis have been in other movies, including The Shack, Maverick, Thunderheart (Green) and Last of the Dogmen (Reevis). Actually, I've very, very glad to see movies where the Casting Director hire Native American's for parts. Way back when, white men/women were hired to play Indians.
That gay Major who gave Dunbar his assignment announced that he wet his pants and then blew his brains out. He couldn't have Been a West Pointer...
