Automotive Mechanical Thread

"Yesterday", I ran a new exhaust on the truck, from front to the back, welded everything together at joints, because the old one just wasn't doing good; too "old". This time I wore the gloves, unlike last time with the golf cart. No wounds on hands, Marie "said", good. :)
I wish I were as capable as you are @Jake Smith. I struggle to crawl under a vehicle these days. Of course, the snow and cold make it worse.

I understand those feelings, "Don", and I do struggle at times to do it, but I don't have the cold here you have there, which I think would shut "me" down for sure. Strange; how we don't really appreciate our gifts in life until they're taken away from us. Like when I was a teen my brother who had the same thing Abraham Lincoln had, bought himself a horse, which looked just like Sea Biscuit, she was too wild, and really "fast". too much for him. So I took her over, rode her everywhere and for a year or two. Then one day my youngest brother wanted to ride with me on Bobby's horse so being so "protective" of him I made the mistake of putting her bridal on him, so he would be able to stop him better. Like I said, "Big Mistake", when they started to run he jumped off and I stayed on the Mare, and when she came to the paved road she turned and slid down on payment on top of me. The right stirrup twisted my right leg completely around crushing it. I got up before she did off payment, with all kinds of payment burns to my head, arms and legs. Looked down and realized my right leg, it was going the wrong way, that freaked me out. My younger brother then walked up to me, where I had laid down in our cousins driveway, and twisted my foot and leg back around straight. I told him my leg is crushed, he said are you sure, and when he looked at it; he said old God it is. They called a ambulance for me, and Dr said we may have to amputate that leg; I told him, if you do I'll kill myself, and I meant it.

But to get back to the point; six months I wore a cast with three pins in that leg, from my hip to toes, and it took me a year to learn how to walk again; after that I learned what it is to "really" appreciate being able to just walk.

I finally crawled under the truck to change the neutral safety switch. I changed one in the past because the vehicle wouldn't start. I didn't know it could cause a vehicle stall, but the guys on the internet said it could, so I changed it as it was less than $30. I took it for a short test drive with no stalling. Crawling in the snow and I only had to come in once to get my hands warm. It was up to 20 F. I still have two problems I know about--a bad fan motor in the cab and a shaky high-pressure power steering connection. I will tackle the fan motor this afternoon after a trip into town to do some business if it stays up around 20 F. or warmer. It shouldn't take long. The power steering may take professional help as I can't seem to get the gasket required. We'll see.

I finally got my old truck back on the road again. I changed the neutral safety switch, and the heater fan, then took it over to my youngest son's as a test drive, and he determined I needed a few more things. He replaced the power steering pressure hose and thinks I need a new PCV valve sometime soon. At least I have my old truck on the road again so I can get plywood, a bale of straw, some other stuff that is too big or dirty for my wife's car.

The temperature got into the 20s F. today, so working outside was tolerable.

Except for the likelihood that my knees would hurt trying to get back up again, I could crawl under a truck without too many problems, but I wouldn't know what I was looking at or what to do when I got there.

Glad you are at least able to use the "old girl", again "Don". And "Ken", I was just wondering how you walk so far, with those knees, guess bending is another story, "huh"?

My "truck", is still trucking, all I'm going to do next is adjust the modulator valve, on "trany" just a little. Running "great". :)

It's always something--like Roseanne Rosanna Dana said. :ROFLMAO:

About to head out to the barn, and try and weld brackets onto the van. for these old running boards I had saved from work years ago, onto Maries van, so she can get into it a lot easier, I had put new pull up handles on inside windshield post; which really seem to help her; but she still needs the running boards. Hope all of you are having a "great" day.
:)

Well, my day is going to be better than it would be if I had to crawl under a truck or get my hands greasy. That clutch assembly repair I had to do on my mower, met my mechanical adventures quota for the year, possibly for life. ;)

I did get them running boards on the van, and it makes it a bit easier to get in, than before. Marie tried them out, and we took a ride down to the old bar in town; she used to bartend for, it's under new management and won't open for another week due the restoration they're doing. We got to go in and meet the new owners, who are pretty young with one child, nice couple, they are. They changed the name, and Marie was happy that they did. She can still barely walk. She is still setting new apps, and will keep her 7th April, appt., never ends; it seems.
