Migrant Caravan Near U.S.–Mexico Border on Oct. 22, 2026

On October 22, 2026, a migrant caravan of roughly 500–600 people from Central America was moving north through southern Mexico toward the U.S. border, prompting a strong U.S. government response.

U.S. government stance

  • DHS warning: On Oct. 21, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) declared there was “absolutely ZERO chance” the caravan would be allowed into the U.S., warning that anyone attempting to cross unlawfully would be arrested, prosecuted, and deported.
  • Policy context: DHS reiterated President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policies and emphasized that the U.S. border had been “closed and secured” for 16 months.
  • Coordination: U.S. Border Patrol was monitoring the group and coordinating with Mexican authorities
