I did not know that. Using an inflation factor from the internet of 8.57, in today's dollars the film cost $145 million and only made $17 million. That surprises me, considering how well-known it is. Perhaps that low figure does not include the decades it ran on television.

I just discovered that in 2012, there was a movie made about the abusive relationship between Hitchcock and Hedren ("The Girl".)

Brings back memories. My dad had an 8mm movie camera and we had movies of the Indy 500 Time Trials from the late 50s/early 60s (don't recall having seen the actual races.) This was when the cars looked like soapbox derby entries. The best part was that the old man kept the camera running as we exited the venue and went into the parking lot to our car, catching images of all those other old cars.

We had some of the cars show in the movie (albeit later models): Rambler station wagon, Studebaker (Lark and Silver Hawk), International Travelall, etc.

Filming of The Birds. Live, stuffed, and mechanically operated birds were used.

I could never pin the date down on that photo. Either that, or possibly during "Secret Agent" (1936). Or maybe not.

I pegged it to be a couple of years earlier (1934) because they both look so young, but who really knows?

This tumblr post captions it as 1936 with no explanation.
There are lots of tumblr reposts of this.

Then a smattering of other postings with no reference whatsoever.

In other words, the same stuff you found. ;)
