I read that Pernell Roberts was sick of that show but had no graceful exit. He thought it was stupid for those grown men to be stuck at home still being ruled over by Daddy. Then he realized that his acting career aspirations would likely never be met, and he had bills to pay, so he learned to embrace what he had. There are so many shows from that era that I plain overdosed on and cannot watch any more. Bonanza is one of them.
Pernell Roberts had quite a career after Bonanza. He was the first of the "kids" to leave, though. I never did like Bonanza very much, although I have always liked Westerns.
Yeah I guess so that seems to strike a bell. Well I guess my folks won out on that war, I'm certain there was only one TV at the time!
I Think back then my favorite character was Fess Parker as Davy Crockett. Was a short series just 3 episodes I really enjoyed them. The theme song was sung by few different people including Buddy Ebsen who was Davy Crockett sidekick.
I stand corrected according to the internet the Davy Crockett series on Disney had 4 episodes not 3. I have the DVD set somewheres I got to remember to check that.
Funny, I only recall Fess as Daniel Boone. I also recall Ed Ames as his intellectual Native American sidekick.
WIKI verifies your original memory: It also says that James Arness was their original choice for the role.
I guess even the internet and have misinformation. The song Ballad of Davy Crockett had a minor hit in 1955 sung by Bill Hayes. There were also versions by Buddy Ebsen, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Fess Parker. The theme song for the series was sung by the wellingtons.
Fess Parker played Davy Crockett on the Magic World of Disney series and later played Davy Crockett in a movie by the name of Alias Jesse James. I haven't watched that movie so I can't tell you how that worked, since Davy Crockett died before Jesse James was born.
I remember a friend of mine told me about the show and I miss understood him and for a long time called him the Long Ranger. I must have thought he was Plastic Man. Another enjoyable show.
I don't remember ever watching The Lone Ranger, but I remember that intro for some reason. (The William Tell Overture.)
