Not only that, but parents are too busy at work, with careers, etc., such that they rely on schools and the nanny state to take care of the kids. In addition, many adults don't seem to be interested in lifelong learning themselves. Why should they? After long hours of work, they'd rather sit down and watch sports or showbiz entertainment.

With an Internet connection, there are a lot of online options that wouldn't require doing all of the teaching.

I understand that too but in some areas home schoolers are harassed by the leaders. And that 4 yr old is a real wild child [ they call him Tarzan] he is really smart but doesn't use it wisely. The kid is a hand full. He will scream and laugh if corrected. Being with their parents the first couple years has gave them a bad start. And you can't whip them, plus it doesn't work with him.
I hear her ask him what he wants for breakfast, he will say cereal them scream and say he wants pancakes. He cracks his sisters i n the head with objects or just walks up slaps or pulls their hair. Kids aren't what they use to be when parents could whip their butts.

Minneapolis Public Schools To Fire White Teachers First Thanks To Teachers Union

There was a 14 day strike which was ended with a new contract. One of the terms reads as follows:

Starting with the Spring 2023 Budget Tie-Out Cycle, if excessing a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers in the site, the District shall excess the next least senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population.

The graduation rate among Minneapolis Public School students is approximately 53%.

A Project Veritas investigation proves that Catholics and conservatives need not apply because they won't be hired, all to fulfill a Democrat progressive agenda. It's all about indoctrination and producing Democrats, not education. It couldn't be clearer. Watch it. It's not that long. This is why our schools are failing.

The true objectives of the US school system couldn't be made clearer, and education has almost nothing to do with it. This is why our schools are failing.

The scum is at the highest levels in the Connecticut educational system, and don't think for one moment that this is confined to Connecticut.

Our educational system is infested with these worms. Besides the political bigotry, how does someone whose every fourth word is "like" advance to the level of assistant principal anyhow? Is politics the sole criterion for advancement? It's like, I don't get it, man. It's like, so nuts.

I hate Megyn Kelly and don't generally try to give her undo attention, but her interview with James O'Keefe is good. She's apparently had some personal experiences with our magnificent American school system. Also, there is the fact, except for extreme political idealogues on the left, this isn't simply a political issue. Our schools are failing while our educators are focused on breeding new little progressives rather than on educating children.

New York City, this time. At an NYC middle school, a teacher proudly talks about how, besides teaching English, she teaches students how to organize violent protests, with a lot of race-baiting. After all, the school heralds itself as a school for leadership and the arts. What are you going to lead, if not a violent protest? Meanwhile, by any reasonable standards, our education system is failing. Throwing more money at this problem isn't going to help it.

I found this interesting extract from a book written in 1965.

    ****************************************
Propagandas, by Jacques Ellul, pub Vintage Books 1965

A related point, central to Ellul’s thesis, is that modern propaganda cannot work without “education”. Thus he reverses the widespread notion that education is the best prophylactic against propaganda. On the contrary, he says, education, or what usually goes by that word in the modern world, is the absolute prerequisite for propaganda. In fact, education is largely identical – the conditioning of minds with vast amounts of incoherent information, already dispensed for ulterior purposes and posing as “facts” and as “education.”

Ellul follows through by designating intellectuals as virtually the most vulnerable of all to modern propaganda, for three reasons: (1) they absorb the largest amounts of second hand, unverifiable information; (2) they feel a compelling need to have an opinion on every important question of our time, and thus easily succumb to opinions offered to them by propaganda on all such indigestible pieces of information; (3) they feel themselves capable of “judging for themselves.” They literally need propaganda.

    ****************************************
The first thing that came to my mind regarding "conditioning of minds" was what is referred to as "new math"; that is, the answer might be correct yet you fail the test for arriving at it via a nonconforming thought process.

That second paragraph is particularly timeless.

Amazon has that book. It's on my list for my next Free Shipping order.

Oregon Gov. Signs Law Allowing Students to Graduate Without Proving They Can Write or do Math

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown privately signed a bill last month ending the requirement for high school students to prove proficiency in reading, writing, and arithmetic before graduation.

SB 744 gives us an opportunity to review our graduation requirements and make sure our assessments can truly assess all students’ learning."

(Washington DC is no better, graduating students who never even show up.)
