The attacks on Iran have begun

Reportedly Trump has announced a partial cessation of attacks on Iran have begun lasting for 5 days pending the results of ongoing negotiations with a part of the government of Iran. This was posted on Truth Social, so people like @Yvonne Smith can confirm this. Perhaps the end of the war is in sight.

Tangentially related to Iran:

I just read that on Aug 8, Trump secured a 99 year lease on Armenia's Syunik corridor as a strategic trade route near Iran and Russia.

"The main goal of the United States in this development project is to reduce the influence of Iran, Russia, and China in the South Caucasus region. The corridor would allow people and goods to travel between Turkey and Azerbaijan and beyond to Central Asia without passing through Iran or Russia."

This came about after Armenia (backed by Russia) and Azerbajan (backed by Israel) had a short war. Armenia lost, in part due to lukewarm support from Russia, and was looking for a better ally. Trump stepped in, got the 2 sides to ink a peace agreement, and the U.S. agreed to provide oversight. In return, we secured this trade route for the region. The result is we further marginalized Russia and China in the region, and acquired not just these 2 allies in the Middle East, but every nation looking for a stable, friendly, safe trade route.

Great news!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. service member who has been missing since Iran shot down a fighter jet has been rescued, President Donald Trump wrote in a social media post early Sunday.

A frantic U.S. search-and-rescue operation unfolded after the crash of the F-15E Strike Eaglejet on Friday, as Iran also promised a reward for anyone who turned in the “enemy pilot.” “This brave Warrior was behind enemy lines in the treacherous mountains of Iran, being hunted down by our enemies, who were getting closer and closer by the hour,” he wrote.

A second crew member was rescued earlier.

I watched the whole story and it was inspiring. I was so glad they both made it out.

Our search and rescue people are quite amazing. I think it began in primitive fashion in Korea when the helicopters were used to rescue pilots behind enemy lines. It advanced a lot in Vietnam. One of the most amazing people I have ever met was a Marine pilot who was blinded when his plane was hit by groundfire and his cockpit "exploded". He was in the jungle for three days blind. He could hear the NVA searching for him and did not know if they could see him or not. After three days, he was found by search and rescue and airlifted out. He had surgery to restore his sight. Our recue folks now have gone even further now with satellites and other things. Their training makes them a "special ops" team of a different sort. Nowhere else has that capability and NATO is totally reliant on our rescue folks and cannot even launch an airstrike on their own, I have no idea what the Israelis have, but I don't think it is near what the U.S. can do.

It now appears that the talks between the U.S. and Iran have already come to an end. It sounds like Vance determined that Iran was not going to offer anything substantive and stuck to its guns as the the Strait of Hormuz and the nuclear weapons plans. I think the teams are already heading home. Vance said the failure of the talks was more consequential for Iran than for the U.S. It may be that their bridges will be gone tomorrow and perhaps the Strait will be secured by the U.S. I know Trump has threatened to simply "take the oil" which I assume means he would secure all ships coming out of Iran and the money flow will be stopped. I don't know if China will react or not. Since Xi fired most of the upper echelons of the military, I don't know if they are able to react even if they wanted to do so.

Apparently Iran refuses to bow to American power. Looking back in history, I can't remember when our adversaries ever did. Germany and Japan had to be completely crushed to end the war. I'm afraid this conflict isn't going away soon.

But in World War II, we weren't constrained by the artificial restrictions that have been placed on us, such as "no boots on the ground," no civilian casualties, and a major opposition political party rooting for the enemy. We weren't concerned about civilian casualties in World War II.

Apparently Trump's threats to destroy the country are paraphrases from the Potsdam Declaration. When Truman, a Democrat, said such things, all was well. If Trump says them, they are war crimes. Truman followed through with two atomic bombs. I doubt Trump will go that far.

"We call upon the Government of Japan to proclaim now the unconditional surrender of all the Japanese armed forces, and to provide proper and adequate assurances of their good faith in such action. The alternative for Japan is prompt and utter destruction."

It's not going away, and it's going to cost Republicans everything. I have grandsons in the military and I am not happy about this hornet's nest we have stirred up. Now it's gone too far and we are in it whether we want to be or not.

I understand your concern and do not know their MOS or status. Good vibes!
I asked SO if he could be drafted under his old contract. He said no but… .

Iran has declared that as far as they are concerned, the Strait of Hormuz is completely open. The U.S. is still keeping Iranian ports closed however, until Iran comes to the table and basically surrenders. The price of oil dropped almost 20% in one day on the announcement, and the stock market took off like a rocket.

Gotta love the Iranians threatening to close the strait, and Trump says "Good idea. I think America will do just that," further crippling Iran's economy. And it seems that the "We have mined the straits but don't know where they are" talk was just BS.

The results are now known.

Starmer now says he ad Macron are going to lead a multi-nation task force to monitor the Strait of Hormuz now that the Strait is open and the U.S. is in control. He says it will begin "when conditions are appropriate". In other words when it is safe they will talk tough as long as there is no danger. @Tom Galty I am sure you are so proud of your PM right now. He is SO brave!:)

I believe Trump told them to stay away.
