I came up with this idea of using plastic colorful bottle caps to make a decorative wooden Christmas tree. I thought I would have someone cut out a shape of an 3 foot evergreen tree out of light weight plywood. I would paint it green and make it look like it had real branches. Then I would glue the flat side of the caps in strings across the tree. Then I would glue those fake gem jewels inside the caps.
It might be possible to bore holes in the plywood to add a string of lights to the back and let the bulbs stick through the holes. It would make a sparkling tree.
If I do it I will add pictures to show how it is made. The ideas my brain conjures up as I clean out Mom's stuff. lol

Here's what I made. Just kidding, but there are tons of things, especially on Pinterest.

I could manage something like these two. First one would take awhile.

Gosh, the first one is overwhelming but I really like the snowman idea. if I used the large white plastic lids that come on Juicy Juice bottles, I could glue rolling eyes in the cap and add the charcoal smile with a black magic marker. Any more ideas of what I could make?

It all depends on what you're most interested in....Christmas decorations? Just using bottle caps?

You can actually buy them unused and even flattened if you want. Probably in different colors also.

I am using the freebee's that come off of all the water bottles and etc... I buy. I know you can buy the old beer lids. But I have just the plastic ones.

image.jpg There are so many things, just look on Pinterest. I wish I was talented or patient enough for some of the awesome artwork I saw.

That one looks like it also used the tops of spray cans. Not sure if the little girl did this one.

When I was younger, I would like to make my own innovative Christmas tree. But my plans never materialized because every time I would think of something creative, it is not creative at all. In other words, I have a low aptitude in arts and I may just be wasting my time. We have some friends who are artists. One them paints bottles and sell them for the sake of art...and he has buyers because those painted bottles can be used as decorations. We have some that I kept in the storage for it might break when the living room is cleaned in the morning.

With the plastic bottle caps, they are just like used CDs to me - they can be a good art material, I just don't know how to connect it to make into an artwork.
