As my momma would say, get your mind out of the gutter!

I want to know about your UNFINISHED projects or WORKS IN PROGRESS projects, that for some reason or another we just haven't gotten around to completing.

In the Home, the He Shed, She Shed, the garage, your studio, whatever the case may be. Do you have a project half built? Do you have a quilt half sewn? What have you started to craft, build, DIY that's still waiting for your return? It's waiting for the final drop of wood glue, the last bit of nails, or the final stitches.

We all have our own reasons or excuses for not finishing our projects. We might have had health issues, financial issues, family issues, or maybe we've just lost interest. We'd rather be fishing or watching Netflix, I don't know.

I hope to god that I'm not the only one with WIPs but I feel guilty because I have them.

I have several WIPs. If I had to explain simply, I would sum it up with I can't seem to find or get my passion back for all of the things I had a great interest in.

I'm gonna want to see some pics! Show em if you got em. I'll show you some of mine a bit later too.
Think about it & have a beautiful day!

Last place I worked we had weekly meetings where we would review the progress on assigned projects. Usually the report would be "ongoing".

If someone would tell me what a WIP is, I'll send them a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

Harry (is it "works in progress"?)

    1. My camp up north. While I have spent nights there, it still needs insulation, an interior wall, and a stove.
    2. My attic. I was on my way to completing it when we had our house insultated, and they insisted on adding a couple of feet of insulation to the floor. I need to finish the interior walls, but it's hard to move around up there now because of all the junk that's piled up.

Can you ever have too much insulation? My house can't. I'd like to get some more insulation/winter-proofing done to my crawl space and attic as well. When we had the last remodel done, we doubled the size of the bathroom and added a third bedroom (new crawlspace area). Supposedly, the newer part of the crawlspace was thoroughly insulated at the time. Just this past winter I had the utility company come out and look at it. Turns out that they did a half-ass insulation job down there. Oh, yay! No one wants to go into the crawlspace and the attic is a nightmare because of ductwork running everywhere. Yes, the furnace is in the attic. I know, I know.

How far away is your camp from where you live? By camp, do you mean a cabin? Just curious.

P.s. This is not one of my W I Ps. I never started it to begin with, so it's not in progress, ha ha!

It's a 32x16' cabin on a hundred acres of mostly woods near the Canadian border, a couple of hours drive from here.

Sounds like heaven. Except for the cold that is. As I've been thinking about downsizing and relocating to a tiny home, I've also been considering a small type of cabin. A hundred acres is a huge responsibility! I can see why you have W I Ps there. A couple of hours' drive isn't something you can just work on for an hour or two whenever you get the feeling.

Plus, there are no utilities so it's all gas-powered, battery-operated, or hand tools. I suppose I could bring the generator up there but I don't like toting that heavy thing around.

Why does the title of this thread keep changing? I originally wrote WIPs because many long time crafters either use abbreviations similar to this or at least know what it means. I picked it up way back when I first started accumulating different quilt and craft projects. It's an abbreviation I picked up and have been using for years. I also thought it sounded a little humorous. I guess not huh? If I offended someone it was not intentional.

Now that the title keeps changing, you might want to delete the very first sentence then because it makes no sense otherwise.

It might be worth taking it if you plan on staying a few days at a time to work and relax. Is all the acreage woods? Or do you have large parts that you have to mow and care for in that way all of the time? Either way, it's still a lot!

I didn't have to think too long on that. I have two file cabinets in the basement that I've been going through for months purging. I only do it when I'm doing laundry which is in the basement.

Ughhh, I haven't purged any of my WIPs, but I've been purging everything else around here. Now that 30+ years in this home is getting thinned down and I'm clearing space (and anxiety), the WIPs are easier to find.

I have to decide which projects I will get back to and complete or not.

Recently, I'm thinking of purging (selling off or donating) 2 large collections of items.
    • Everything from my embroidery/quilting room. The machine, the collection of books; the machine attachments and miscellaneous feet and a large lot of quilting rulers, embroidery threads, etc, etc.
    • All of my cut and ground and sanded mosaic focal pieces (made from china dishes) along with all of the mosaic tiles, trims etc and the tile saw, the grinder
These are two hobbies I had and loved. I have unfinished projects in both. The quilting and embroidery room got packed away and pushed aside because of the spine issues. I started having huge problems with being able to sit straight up (putting weight on my tailbone) on hard surfaces or for long enough time periods to actually get things done. I have joint issues. My spine locks, my hips lock, my shoulders pinch and lock. It's hard to sit straight up or to sit in any one position for a long period of time. On the flip side, it made room for my grand-daughter at the time so it worked out for her for a long while. She stayed with me while my daughter worked nights and she had her own room because I had to pack up my stuff for health reasons.

When I'm working on a craft or quilt or something like that, I don't know when to quit. I don't quit when I'm hurting. I just keep on a going and then later I have to pay the consequences for days. So, I'm thinking of purging both of these hobbies and it's a lot of stuff! I'll keep thinking about it until I get that 1 spontaneous moment of intuition that says it's time. Let it go. :(
