In most of my dreams, I am myself, and I am dreaming about my family, or at least people that I know in real life. I am usually trying really hard to get somewhere in my dreams. I am not sure what that signifies exactly, but it seems to be a fairly constant part, no matter what the actual dream is about. Sometimes, I am chopping my way through underbrush, and other times, I am desperately trying to get my kids safely to the top of a mountain to escape a flood that keeps rising behind us. I usually have very large houses in my dreams, and some of them seem to re-appear over and over, even though they do not exist anywhere except in my dreams, and are not anything like any house I have ever been inside of. One of the strangest things is when I am dreaming, and I seem to be someone else besides myself. I don't know any of the people in my dream, although in the dream I know who they are. One time, I was some kind of a jet pilot, and was happily flying around in some kind of a spaceship with an enormous control panel on the front. I knew exactly how to fly it and what all of the buttons and gadgets were for. Now, in real life, I seriously hate flying, and am totally useless about any kind of mechanical things; so it really made me wonder where a dream like that even came from. Does anyone else have dreams where you are someone else that is totally unknown to you ? What do you think it means to dream something like that even ?
Usually, I am myself in my dreams, although the other people inhabiting my dreams are from various periods and places in my life, and often include people I do not recognize. Sometimes, however, my dreams are more like watching a movie, where I am more or less a third-party watching events as they unfold. Commonly, if I wake up during the night with a vivid memory of a dream, I can make adjustments to it and go back to sleep, to find that some of my adjustments have been implemented. On Sundays, I sometimes allow myself to remain in bed just as long as I possibly can. These days, I sometimes remain in bed until I realize that I'm not really dreaming anymore, but simply closing my eyes and making up stories. Over the past several years, there has been a common theme to many of my dreams. I am either working in a factory or I am a student in a college, both of which I have done during significant periods of my life. But, when I am in a factory, I am aware that I am an upper-level employee, and everyone seems genuinely pleased to have me there, yet I don't have a clue as to what I am supposed to be doing. Aware that I should be doing something, I wander around the factory in my dreams, hoping that something will trigger a memory of what it is that I am employed to do. My college dreams are similar, in that I am a full-time student in college, living in the dorms (although in real life, I spent only two semesters in a dorm), but I am aware that I haven't been to a class in a long time, and I either don't know what classes I am supposed to be taking, or I don't know either where they might be or what times they are held. Dreams are a lot like movies though, in that they keep us entertained at night. I am always disappointed when I wake up in the morning unaware of any dreams that I might have had, because I feel like I have wasted whatever time I had been sleeping.
Same here, I am me. One of the worst dreams I have on a monthly basis is always about a restaurant. I am always cooking and at first there is a full staff. Next thing I know is that there is a dining room full of people and it is just me in the whole place trying to cook and serve. Sometimes I might have one server who come in to put a ticket on the spindle but there is no way I can read what it says. I always find myself running around to find out what the orders are and trying to serve but never getting the 1st table totally served. If you knew how large my ego is concerning Food and Beverage you might have a clue how truely terrible that doggone dream is. Bye the by.......did you know that you cannot read in a dream? It's all scrambled up.
I've had a few occasions where I dream that I am someone else, totally unknown, and I am talking to myself in my dream. Like, it was a normal conversation, and I didn't even notice that it was a dream. There are other occasions where I am running away from some attack on my house, fleeing with my children and grand-children. It's rather scary actually.
My dreams have always lead me to waking up thinking that I have a handful of dollar bills that I found (in my dream). My dreams always seem very real to me too. I can remember most of the details and, strangely, how I was feeling. I sometimes wake up crying, or angry, sad or happy. I often have dreams of remembrance when my grandparents were alive. I would remember walking around the grounds and picking fruit off the trees. They even had a grapevine. Those were soo good. As I got older and wanted to know what kind of grapes they were and found out that they were Concord grapes. I did find some and they were delicious just as I remembered. My dreams always seem to lead me on an expedition of some kind. My husband would look at me puzzled like 'what, why?' It's funny.
Very occasionally I have been someone else in a dream, but mainly I am me as I am now or as I was at some time during my life. Often my late parents or my sister appear in my dreams, and are like they used to be when I was young. A previous partner might also appear as if we were back together. It was very confusing when I met and fell in love with someone new, and I started to dream a lot that I was still married to my ex-husband and was in a loving marriage. l often dream of situations I've been in before, but I also dream of places I've never been to and situations I've never been in.
I am always my self, different verisions of my self, a different time maybe. Most often my dreams will take me on an adventure of some type.
I don't get why people say you can't read in dreams. Albeit, there might be times when it's all scrambled up, but there are times when it's clear as a bell, too. I know for certain I have read in dreams with no problem, with what I've read being a wonderful part of the dream--the best being messages of peace. I think, maybe, that it might be like the experience of flying in dreams. When I was young, I could fly in my dreams (with little control of where I went) when all was well, but just let something happen in the dream where I really needed to fly and I couldn't get off the ground to save my life. Now, I fly more actively, having far greater control and always being able to get off the ground.
I always have a sense of being myself, but occasionally in a different body. Even then, there is a familiarity with that body and no particular surprise when I find myself in it. Almost like when I find myself in the company of people I know in my dreams, whom I've never seen in real life. Over the years I have noticed that I encounter some of the same (unknown in real life) people relatively often--probably as often as I encounter some of the real life people I know in my waking hours.
Except for my family, I don't usually have other people in my dreams, and often my parents, who have been gone for many years now, are in my dreams. At first, I would be surprised to see my mom or dad and think that they couldn't be in the dream because they weren't alive any more; but now, I seem to have come to expect them to show up sometimes, and no longer give it a second thought, except I somehow still know that it is only a dream because they are there. I mentioned the house in my dreams; and there are also other places that seem to show up that I have never actually seen. One is a beautiful lake with a bubbling stream that flows out of it and over rocks and has a small pool that usually has fish swimming in it. I have to carefully walk acrosss on the ricks to get to the trail on the other side that leads up to the rest of the lake. It is always a nice place in my dreams, and I am always happy to see it again.
I always am myself in my dreams but usually a 20 year version. The dreams can be fun, scary or just plain wild. I do have one reoccurring dream that is a bit bothersome. It is in an old house in Glendale Ca. There is a room that I need to be in but to get there I have to go through a lot of strange portals, one is almost impossible as I can only enter backwards and upside down. This dream appears every year or so and is almost always the same. Now one dream that I have but is always different is really strange. Now that I am older and not worried about my life it does not occur often. If my life is going sour, I will dream of having to use a toilet but every restroom I visit is filthy and not serviceable. But when my life is back on track, I will have a dream of very clean restrooms!
To my knowledge I am usually myself in my dreams. The reason I say to my knowledge is because I don't always remember my dreams. But I usually am myself, although I don't always recognize the place where I am at the time. It can be strange especially when some time down the road I find myself in that place that I dreamed about before actually going there.
I've never been aware of being anyone but myself. I'm always intrigued by the appearance in my dreams of people that I don't recognise. Are they people I know, but have forgotten, or are they genuinely random strangers? I think it's safe to say that the oddest character I'm encountered in a dream is the very large gorilla that was composed of steel wool. It seemed to be quite a peaceable beast. (Just in case anyone thinks I'm a complete loon, I'd like to point out that I had been taking anti-malarial tablets for more than a year and they tend to give you psychedelic dreams.)
As far as I can remember, it's been just me. I enjoy the fun dreams and the dreams where I'm play in a band or winning tons of money in a casino or lottery. About once a week, the bad, and sometimes stupid, dreams set in. Some make no sense and others scare the heck out of me.
I am Cleopatra, Mary Queen of Scots, Florence Nightingale ,Lorna Doone, first women in space, saviour of the world and more...then I wake up and I am me again. Anyone else able to continue their dreams the following night
