What Are You Doing Today?

Well, if this isn't weird. There was no tapioca at Walmart, so I stopped at a Food Town on my way home. No tapioca. After I got home I checked HEB and Kroger websites... no tapioca in stock locally. What the heck?? Is tapioca passe' now or what? They all had those refrigerated pudding cups of tapioca pudding, but no plain tapioca. I have a couple of fruit pie recipes that call for tapioca so I know people must still use it.
I looked at the Walmart app, and you can order the little boxes of Minute Tapioca, but they have to ship it, none that you can veg for delivery. So, it looks like they are not carrying it now.
Walmart cottage cheese is gone almost everywhere, too ! No one seems to know why, but when i kept finding it out of stock, I searched online for no GV cottage cheese at Walmart, and people from all over were asking what happened.
At least you can get it from Amazon, it looks like Bob’s Red Mill has tapioca pearls.

We buy Bobs Red Mill organic oatmeal.

I just bought a small box at Kroger 2 days ago. 🤔 I use it as a thickner in some recipes.

I saw the tapioca pearls on Amazon but all of those are ridiculously priced. A box of Tapioca usually costs about $3, but I guess if it's getting rare I will have to splurge. There are many other supermarkets around here so I'll have to do some checking.

What brand did you buy, Krys? There are several Kroger stores within 10 miles of us so I will check availability since the store closest doesn't have any.

Kraft Minute Tapioca. 8 ounce box.

I just checked my Kroger website and it is not listed as being available in the store. Yet, there was boxes on the shelf two days ago. Expiration date on my box is Jan 2028.

Cars around here get to be a filthy mess in the winter...
Back in the early 1980s my band played at the Aspen National Bank, a bar in an 1880s bank building in Aspen Colorado on New Years Eve. We had an extremely hard time getting there because of near blizzard conditions. Once we got there and had the gear all set up we had to figure out where to park our bus, a city cop pulls up on a snowmobile. After we finished laughing, he say "Year, we get that a lot visitors. But almost everyone who lives here parks their car after we get a foot of snow, and you can easily tell the visitors from the locals. All the locals drive snowmobiles most of the winter. But if you want to see a lot of snow, head up to Snowmass. There's a shuttle bus up to the ski area." He said we could park the bus in the local grocery store parking lot. We did, then we played and at 2:00a, we left before we got stuck there. Fortunately, the bus weighed a lot and we had chains. We were lucky to get rooms on I-70 in a blizzard.

Yeah, that can help. I have a 2002 Chevrolet Tracker that's so light it gets stuck on ice. The tires just keep spinning. Last winter, I bought eight 40-lb bags of cheap cat litter and carried them in the back for traction. That didn't help much, if at all. Studded tires didn't help either.

A church I used to attend does a pancake & Bingo meal for Shrove Tuesday. (I still attend these functions and help out.) We used to do it for dinner for the neighborhood and a couple of other affiliated churches, but COVID buggered that forever. We always invited special needs folks from a local community "clubhouse" they spend the day at, and we keep the event going just for them. Last couple of years we went to their place and made breakfast and did Bingo. This year we hosted brunch at the church. Made pancakes and sausage (and for some reason either cooked apples or applesauce) for probably 30 folks.

Physical therapy for my right hand which the surgeon wants to have another go at. Fed my truck. The usual and now off to water the big post. It is windy and cold but those lines are too thin to turn on sprinkler feeders.

We went back to the Ophtalmologist today for another eye test to finalize my husband's cataract surgery. He will have one eye done next Thursday and the other eye the following Thursday.

Other exciting things I did today; laundry, ironing, a little vacuuming and ordered a pizza. It's a wrap for today!

I'm meeting 2 friends for lunch at a local Italian place today at 1 p.m. We try to meet up monthly but we missed a couple of months due to holidays and a family emergency, so it will be good to get caught up. I'll order a take out dinner to bring home for my husband's dinner so it will be an easy day.

Good morning to all-

Let's see...

Fed the cats and chickens.
Flew one of my RC planes down at the flying field
Worked in the garden- weeding, weeding, weeding
Made a fruitless trip to the pharmacy to pick up wife's meds- their "system" was down...
got live crickets for daughter's classroom pet toad

and found this site

a good morning, I'd say.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed
