I know that bread is bad, read it millions of times, but I still enjoy fresh baked breads. What to do with that loaf of bread you picked up in a rush at the market? Toast! The flavor changes, you have that crunch and just feels good. Is it Caramalizing the sugars? Change in texture? Probably not a great subject on a Senior forum, as many have left breads behind, but those that still enjoy it, what's your favorite. I go from one extreme to another. Number one is fresh, out of the oven bread that I dip in extra virgin Olive oil; next is any type of homemade biscuit. Almost always toast any store bought bread we buy. I bought one of these when we live in the UK and got our unsliced bread from the local bakery. Needed a way to make my toast and I just made a mess without the guide.
@Tim Burr, so that's a guide for cutting bread? I have that problem, in that my cuts are always way too thick.
I love toast with just butter, there is something comforting about it...don't know why. I don't eat a lot of bread but when I do it's usually some type of healthy bread with good nutritional values...and I ALWAYS toast it...just tastes better. I don't toast all bread equally though....my comfort toast I like well done...the rest varies on what I plan on doing with it. Agree about the fresh bread out of the oven and I like a good crust, especially if dipping in olive oil or anything really. Don't care for biscuits though.
I like toast! I miss the days when I could enjoy hot buttered cinnamon toast with a hot cup of tea. The only thing that I don't like about toast is the toast sweat!
@Tim Burr I continue to enjoy bread and toasted bread, despite my wife's disparaging remarks. Yesterday I bought a 6-pack of wheat bagels off the surplus rack, and will have a half of each, sliced radially, toasted, for breakfast for the next 12 days! Festooned with either jam made from the fruit left over after fermenting into wine, or peanut butter! Yum! Frank
I'm a big Bread fan...I love freshly baked bread... store bought not so much. I hate that I can't buy bread particularly wholemeal that has the same wholesome taste as we had when we were kids. I like thick sliced wholemeal bread toasted with butter and marmalade in the morning,, but in truth I can eat bread any time of the day
I'm a bread lover. Since cooking has become something of a problem I eat a lot of sandwiches. Prefer Rainbo sandwich bread. With my scrambled eggs or oatmeal of a morning I prefer multigrain or twelve grain buttered lightly and toasted. I tend to like breads with a little flax seed or flower in the mix.
I like all the specialty breads best...one of my down falls. I could skip the sliced white breads easy...but love all the other loaves..buns...rolls etc.
Me too..currently I have wholemeal bread, coriander and garlic Naan bread... butter croissants, and fruit pancakes all in the bread bin....
i love toasted raisin bread---when we were kids we had one of those big ole cast iron stoves--it ran off kerosene-we would just lay the bread on top of the burners til it was golden brown ---it tasted sooooo good
