Have never had this before, until this last Monday AM.

As always, we had our ear muffs on at the Pistol & Rifle Outdoor Range last Sunday. I had a hard time hearing what my wife said a few times, so had to take them off and put back on. That night my hearing was fine, but Monday morning, I started hearing the whistling/ringing noise in my left ear. At the time, it also felt like I had got a head cold, so I took a couple of OTC cold tabs. The cold tabs did decrease the sound, but not get rid of it. The ear doesn't hurt, but there is that constant sound going on. Sometimes slightly loud and other times, not so loud. Doesn't bother me all the time, but would definitely like to get rid of it.

Guess it will be time to make an appt. with my PCP. Medicare will cover a PCP exam, but not a Hearing Exam from a ear doctor. And, we sure don't want to get a full bill in from going to the wrong doctor.........one that Medicare doesn't cover.

Your regular dr can look in your ear and then recommend the next step.

    That's right Chrissy

Loud noise can affect the ears over a period of time

I understand that, but every time we go to our shooting range we both wear ear muffs. It's a requirement there. We've been going to a shooting range for some 14 years now and I've never had a problem. And, this noise is only coming from the left ear.

I just sent a secure message to my VA doctor about the ear. I'm not a "Service Connected Injury" Veteran, so don't think they will help me. If I have to go to a Medicare doctor, and he recommends a Hearing Specialist type doctor, we will have to pay the full amount of the that exam. Medicare only covers a PCP ear/hearing exam. Of course, I don't want this problem for the rest of my life, so if I end up having to go to a Specialist, I have to and pay that.

It may not be to do with the range but when we reach a certain age, problems surface that were underlying for
years. The doc should determine a cause when he checks your ears
Although you wear ear muffs, the jolt or vibration could have an accumulative affect too ...................

I hope you get seen to soon Cody - in the meantime, might be wise to give the range a miss
You may be an unlucky one in respect of ear problems, where another person wouldn't be affected

Your right there. Years ago I had a few jobs where I had to wear the small foam (twist-up) type ear plugs. I worked around, no on though, CNC machines, industrial saws, drill presses and plastic injection molding machines. Talking about noisy! That is why today, at times, I talk loud. My wife sometimes thinks I'm yelling, but I can be talking above the tv or washing machine/dryer. Most of her working years have been in an office..........not me!

Ah - so you have been around noise for a good while
Until you see the doc - you could try some olive oil on a tissue and gently put in your ear
    Can be worthwhile

We are going to give the range a "miss", but we just bought a nice pair of Electronic Outdoor Range Ear Muffs for me. They are rated excellent. The ones we currently have are descent, but just regular ear muffs that are Universal (range, construction work, noisy warehouse and so on). Will definitely see a doctor before we return to the range. Don't need to make the problem worse.

Is this for the "ringing/whistling" noise or for ear pain? I don't have any ear pain, only the noise. Instead of a tissue, what about using a Q-Tip or eye dropper?

Eye dropper is perfect, nurses use olive oil so worth a try
just one or two drops then a bit of tissue to stop it running out
