I had to make a trip out in the cold brisk winter weather today. After my business was taken care of I stopped in a Goodwill store on my way home. I was just browsing and happened to pass by a very large mirror and then backed up. Hmmm maybe I should have put on a little make up it would have made this DNKY hat show better and make me look a little nicer .

I often have thoughts on fashion, hair and make up. I think it would be a nice addition to add to the forum.

Ok I'm up for it...what shall we talk about? :D

Ok what about, ,...how often do you buy clothing from a ''goodwill '' (we call them ''charity''.) store?

I buy from them sometimes when I see something designer, that I would never dream of paying the original price for....for example I got a Jaeger coat a couple of years ago.. which would have cost me £500 in the department store...and cost me £20 in the charity shop and it was and still is in Mint condition...I've had a lot of bargains like that..

However I wouldn't buy ordinary high street clothing second hand...nor would I buy bedding or shoes...but the designer stuff...yes, in a heartbeat!!

I sometimes purchase designer clothes, mostly wool overcoats, sweaters and jackets. I always get a tingly sensation when I find that 'perfect' item and only pay a fraction of the original price. I do take a look at their shoes at the Goodwills that I frequent. I've found brand new shoes and paid only 5.00 for them. Those are what I call 'the deal of the day.' It doesn't happen often.

I don't shop Goodwill because my daughters closet is all designer and thankfully I can fit some things of hers.

She does give her designer things that she doesn't want anymore to a consignment shop in town and every once in awhile she gets a few hundred dollars from them.

Other than that she is a shopaholic and I am a beneficiary of that. :) Meaning I haven't paid for any of my clothes since my husband died. I'm blessed with a very generous daughter. She also has good fashion sense so I like going shopping with her. I have too many things right now and don't have the opportunity to wear it.

I have things with the tags still on them. So does she and I've told her she needs to cut back on her shopping and she agrees. We shall see. She just bought her third pair of Valentino shoes. Those are probably her most expensive shoes though.

I got a Coach handbag at the Goodwill for $40.00, it looked band new, like no one had ever used it, not a mark on the leather, nothing.

What I loved about it was; no where on the exterior did the bag indicate "Coach". I didn't even KNOW it was a Coach bag until at home, I noticed the leather label sewn into the interior. I just thought it was a well made, smart looking, plain black leather purse, no pattern. I don't like to wear things with the designers names visible, no free advertising!:p

Strangely, when I was in the hospital, one of the nurses said she liked my Coach bag. I asked how did she know? She smiled and said she just "knew". o_O

EDIT to say... OMG, what if it was her bag that she donated?

Would you rather wait for her Louis Vuitton's? I don't know what she likes about them, I wouldn't want one.

Just want to add on the subject of Goodwill, it depends what town you live in....Fresno's are bad. Nothing worthwhile and the prices are ridiculous.

The best thrift shops I've been to were in Chicago. Got the nicest baby things when my daughter was little.

Also the thrift shops in the richer suburbs were always good for quality clothing.

Nope...tbh, I love handbags, but I wouldn't want a really expensive designer one which costs hundreds sometimes thousands of pounds. I'd be terrified I'd get mugged by someone who thought I was mega rich!!

I buy almost all my handbags ( real leather) hand made in Spain or Greece and they are fabulous quality at a fraction of the price but no designer label, and that suits me fine :D

A long time ago I was in the Salvation Army thrift store, and snagged a brand new, tags still on it, white terry cloth bathrobe for $5.00. It was one of those very thick and tightly knit, heavy robes that last a long, long time and it did. It would have lasted longer if I hadn't started using bleach on it.

That's what I worry about with her, Holly. I'm afraid she will be mugged one day for the purse and watch she is wearing.

I haven't seen Coach or Vuitton handbag that I 'just had to have.' One day a young lady was in the Goodwill and commented to me that they had some really nice handbags but 'they cost too much.' I kept my mouth shut but thought 'Lady you can't find a better deal if it's a designer bag.'

I see a lot of Michael Kor now, I think I like what I've seen so far.

I really don't get whats so nice about them, most of the styles aren't very comfortable and I don't like the ones that have the LV all over them.

I like comfy purses and not too big because it hurts my back and shoulders if my purse is too heavy. All I need room for is a small wallet, sun glasses, keys and iphone.

If I'll be out longer then meds for pain, maybe a lipstick and some tic tac.

I have a Michaels Kors and a Kate Spade my daughter gave me....I do like those 2!

I also have 2 Lululemon sporty type bags she bought me and those are the ones I use the most, mainly because of their light weight.

I love watches too..and I have a couple of very expensive ones but I'm very careful where I wear them. I like to mix and match watches to match what I'm wearing but I never pay more than £100 for 'fashion watches' ....and for work I wear a trusty waterproof standard timex.. this one...

The Coach bag I was talking about is this one, but this pic I found shows the back. The front side has a flap.

Have to say though that my daughter is an expert at getting the lowest price on most of her purchases. It amazes me how she whittles the price down with coupons, sales etc. she has it down to a science and she will return things for a price adjustment if it goes on sale after she bought it. Except for some designer things that never go on sale I don't think she's paid full price for anything.

If she ever decides she doesn't want to be a dentist anymore, she would make an excellent shopper and I have a feeling she would enjoy it more. :)

Sometimes finding a good deal is better than SEX, lol.

Are men allowed here?:) When I still attended church services, I always liked seeing the ladies dressed like below. Still like that look. How about you gals?

Agree with Ruby about the hats. Those ladies in your pic look classy, Ike! My mother was like that, she always looked nice and loved hats. Even now at 83 and as sick as she is, she makes sure she is put together.

Before this last incident, even though it took her forever just to walk to her bathroom, she still would put on a nice outfit, necklace and earrings.

I wish I could wear hats but I look terrible in them.

I don't have many pictures of me hatless but I'll try and find one now...
