    This image was saved 3 days ago. My wife showed it to me, suggesting the folks here might enjoy seeing it. The detail freaked me out! No idea what kind of camera took this. We are looking northward with the big blue area being Lake Mohave. To it's left, Nevada, right, Arizona. I had always pictured L. Mohave as being skinny and long, but the wide basin surprised me. Right in the center is Davis Dam, impounding the Colorado, with the flow from it's turbines progressing southward. Then, it's Colorado River, again. Proceeding downwards, again, the highway encountered angling towards the left, upper, is NV 163, which intersects US 95 in the bluish upper left. US 95 runs northward to Boulder City, then Las Vegas, 100 miles.

    Our measly airport, Bullhead City International, lies at center, at the very bottom. The runway is unmistakable.

    The "downtown" part of Laughlin, NV. is at the very lower left. It is about 3 or 4 miles west of the "Strip", Casino Drive. There, a number of businesses cater to those preferring NV to AZ. A beautiful big and modern Post Office graces the area. A shame that the "boom" failed to return, so far. Many homes, condos, and apartments are vacant, my guess would be at least 20%.

    I'm guessing that the "wide-spot" in L. Mohave lies up around Searchlight, NV, an old mining town now having several hundred residents. Sen. Harry Reid (D. NV) was born and raised there. Further upwards, of course, beyond the scope of the pic lies Boulder City, home of Hoover Dam. Hoover impounds the waters which form Lake Mead, one of the largest man-made lakes, with a shoreline of 550 miles, half that of L. Michigan!

    We feel very privileged, in our old age, to be able to have chosen this place as our final area to live in. We love it here. We brave the summer heat, savor the mild winters. In between those extremes, life is nearly complete. It's a beautiful place!

    Another privilege of this age of ours is the digital technology which afforded us to see actual maps like that in the pic. Now we can clearly see where we are and where our home is situated that we may be surprised when it runs counter to our impression before. Even the directions using the GPS (global positioning system) is also a gift.

    Well, it looks like you have a good location there and it's enviable because you have the airport, you also have the dam for your nature trip. It's hard to imagine that you have the casinos there as well.

    Where did she get that view? I'd like to see where I live in color like that.

    @Chrissy Page

    Something she saw in the local F.B. deal, a bunch of folks spun off a thing called Laughlin Buzz. Several thousand members,. from all over the world. A member caught the image from an airplane supposedly at about 30,000 feet.

    That is an awesome pic, and the colors are so vibrant. I find it to be very impressive. i have taken pictures out of a plane many times, and never have I gotten that kind of color or detail from the plane. The best I can see are some distorted images and some blurry colors. I love that pic, it is awesome. It must be fantastic to be a pilot really. To be able to see that every day must be grand.

    I live in the driest state in Australia ..but this winter we have had double the expected rainfall ...
    This time last year it was 35c ( 95f) it is 13c right now (55) and we are forecast to have the worst rain /wind storm on record tomorrow ...( for two days)
    Where we live its mainly cereal farming ,lots of open country side, we don't have much trouble with flooding as most of our excess rainfall runs out to sea ( I'm only 500 mtrs from the sea) with fairly good drainage areas for water to run away quickly ( we live in a fairly new estate,with good drainage )
    I grew up in an very dry town in New South Wales ,which only seen rain once or twice a year ( if we were lucky )
    I moved to South Aust in the 70's but I've never seen the rain that's being forecast in the next couple of days
    That sort of rainfall is seen in Queensland... 3000 km from us ..
