I get 3% discount for gas using my credit card and when you figure in that I filled my 15-gallon tank 3 times last year when gas was under $3 a gallon, consider that in another year I can afford a small latte at Starbucks. :)

I had dropped the Walmart+ because we have been just doing the curbside pick-up option; but I just renewed my membership.
Walmart+ has added several new benefits.
One is a movie website called Paramount+, which they said is usually $59 per year, and is free with walmart+ now. They also have added a rewards program (something similar to Amazon Rewards, I think) that gives you reward points when you order.
I still would not have signed up again, but they are offering a half price special for the next 2 days (until 11/3), and it is $49 for the year when you pay for the year in advance.

Since winter is coming , with those cold, damp days where we do not want to go much of anywhere, it would be nice to have the home delivery option for groceries again, plus for anything that has to be shipped, the shipping is free.
You also get an early start on sales specials , again like Amazon Prime does, which will be good for people doing holiday shopping.

For the gas 10 cent per gallon discount, it turns out I did not know how to work it before. You have to have the app open and scan one of those little code things into the phone, and then it gives you the discount, or so I read.
We will be getting gas soon, so I will try it out again and see if it works.

WALMART PLUS AND THE GREAT STRAWBERRY JAM CAPER

Last week I signed back up for Walmart+, and I thought I would go ahead and order some groceries for delivery. Smuckers strawberry jam was on sale, and since we now have an awesomely beautiful yellow toaster, I decided I would order some jam to put on our toast.
The jam was on a good sale, so I ordered two jars.

Before the order is ready, they let you know if something is not available, and sure enough, they didn’t have my Smuckers strawberry jam in stock; but no problem, they said that they would ship it to me and it would be here next week.
Then, last night, Walmart messaged me and said the delivery guy would be bringing my strawberry jam from one of the other stores by courier instead of shipping it, and sure enough, around 8:30 last nite, there he was with the jam.

I received another text from Walmart letting me know that the jam that was being shipped was now scheduled on Wednesday due to some kind of delay.
Walmart needs to get coordinated here, we thought.
Today, we went to the fitness center, and when we came home, Walmart left me a message that said “Troy is delivering your order and will leave it at your door”.
And there was a bag with two more jars of strawberry jam, waiting on the porch when we arrived back home.

I have checked my order, and as far as I can see, I only ordered 2 jars and paid for them.
Walmart seems to be still getting their act together, but we already now have enough strawberry jam that I will never need to order more again, so I am definitely not complaining.
We are waiting to see what happens on Wednesday ……

That's interesting you were notified that the jam was not in stock. I ordered some night light/emergency lights online, not realizing that because they are a stocked product, they would be hand-delivered from the store...my intent was to buy them online because of the quantity I wanted and I thought they would come from a warehouse. One of the lights they delivered was not like the others. When I took it back, I was informed that their policy was to provide a "Best Match" substitute...not to call the customer, and not to process a back order.

    Maybe food is managed differently.

We had a poor experience with ordering groceries online this time. Last week, on Wednesday, I ordered groceries delivered with Walmart+, and they were supposed to arrive that evening between 6-7. By bedtime, they still had not arrived, so I cancelled the order, and then re-ordered everything for the next day at 8-9 am; so if it was late, we would be up and at home , and not late at night. By Thursday night, it had not arrived, and I had made several phone calls about the order, and no one at walmart seemed to know when it would arrive. They finally told me that they were short of store employees to fill the orders for the drivers, and they didn’t know when it would arrive; so that night, I can called that order, too.

I decided to try the small walmart neighborhood market instead of the big walmart, and reordered once again , for delivery on Friday morning. That one arrived.
So far, so good. But then, I looked at the order information, and they had cancelled and refunded the first order, but not the second one, and it still showed as out for delivery. I tried again to cancel it, but was told that it could not be cancelled now. This was on Friday.
This morning, I received notification from Walmart that my delayed order could not be delivered and they were cancelling the order .

From now on, at least through the holidays, we will be ordering from the Baby Wally and not the Super Wally, since all they do is food, and that order came through for us.

That sucks. I had no idea there even was a "Baby Wally." Out my was we have Super Centers. There's a S.C. in Charlottesville, and the Walmart up the road from me was also proposed as a Super Center. I forget whether it was the .county or if it was Walmart that changed those plans.

I've placed online orders for stuff that's carried in the store (emergency night lights) because I wanted more than the store had, so rather than clean them out (and to hit Free Shipping), I ordered the nightlights online. Well, I had no idea that my Walmart would deliver to my house, even though I'm 8 miles away. I also did not know that if you order something that is stocked in the store, they satisfy that order from store inventory via Home Delivery. If you order more than they have in stock, the picker unilaterally substitutes the closest next thing...they do not back-order, and they do not notify you. So I got 3 of the model emergency light I ordered, and a non-matching one that lacked the features I wanted.

Walmart might not deliver to your house that far away, @John Brunner . My friend in Idaho lived a few miles away from the walmart there, and they did not deliver to her house. The walmart was actually located on the outside part of town, so they might not have delivered in town at all. We are maybe a mile from the Baby Wally, and 2 miles from the big one, so they both deliver here.
You would need to call your walmart and ask if they deliver that far away.
With people ordering so much online now, fresh food is becoming the main thing that we need an actual store for anymore. Otherwise a warehouse for shipping would do most thinks, like Amazon does. I think that is why walmart is going towards the little neighborhood markets instead of the Supercenters now.

Actually, I was shocked when I placed that emergency night light order and it got dropped onto my doorstep. It's happened 3-4 times where I just wanted to fill out an internet order to hit free shipping. I've not tried having groceries delivered, but I prefer to shop for myself. And I've stopped ordering stuff that's stocked in the store. It's a waste of resources for them to drive stuff to me, and I don't have a way to opt out.

I ordered that 50 inch, non smart tv from Walmart. It was from another vendor and did not offer home delivery on the Walmart site. I was trying to figure out how I would get it home and, low and behold, there it was on my porch!
They are confused but, eventually, I think they want to become real competition for amazon.

Nobody local delivers to me. Amazon still does but uses UPS or USPS to do it and it takes a week or more to get here.

Walmart+ now has a low income version, just like amazon has; so when I renewed this time I was able to use that and save money. I think that it is good when companies do something like this.
Delivery is great for elderly people , especially ones who no longer have a vehicle or can drive to go grocery shopping. Sam’s club is part of the whole walmart conglomerate, but they only let yo use EBT if you actually shop inside the store, and not for shipping orders or for instacart delivery, or I would order more from Sam’s Club.

Explain this to me - If you order something from Walmart to ship, such as underwear, that rmine can be shipped but his has to be picked up, knowing these items are in the store - Infruarating . Also some things you can have sent to you on a monthly - or more basis. But I never want that item done that way, but seldom can I find another to order it.

I have no good explanation for that either, @Hedi Mitchell . I have encountered much the same thing, just with buying groceries. If I order a can of olives, they deliver. If I order a jar of green olives, they ship them to me. I KNOW they have green olives in the Walmart store, so why they can deliver one and have to ship the other makes NO sense to me.
I can order 4 cans of sardines or smoked herring, but if I want to save money and order the 4-pack, then they ship those. And even stranger, sometimes shipping means that it comes 3 days later with FedEx, and sometimes, it means a delivery guy brings it from a different walmart than the one i was ordering the item from.
And walmart will not give me a substitute if they are out of the particular brand of bread i order for Bobby; so I always have to order two different kinds of bread in order to get even one loaf.

I've had similar issues with Walmart. I wanted 5 of a specific night light/emergency light, but they only had one in the store. I placed an online order thinking they would ship from the warehouse, and the next day I received different [substitute] models that were hand-delivered from the store. They told me that's their standard procedure...find a "close enough" substitute. I've never ordered groceries from them.

From what you and Yvonne said, I guess there's no figuring out what's gonna happen when you order something that's stocked "locally."
