Isn’t it weird that boys rarely break their arms after falling out of a tree whist their mother is watching?

I can use most of my fingers for typing now, although not efficiently, and I can't put any stress on them but maybe they were right about them not being broken, after all. It's still swollen though. I don't have any knuckles.

Now, where does it hurt or is most of the pain on the backside?

It's all on the back. Right now, it only hurts when I move my fingers.

    Ouch! Owl! Ohh-ho-ho.

Ella can sense you're in pain. You do know that animal's tongues have healing power. They always lick their wounds. Maybe I watch too much TV. I hope I put a smile on your face. ;)

Particularly the area of the thumb and two smaller fingers or just pretty much all around ouch?

I’m just curious because after studying Kenpo for a number of years and also touched upon Kempo (two totally different styles) I learned a lot of hand techniques, some of which help out a little in the case of sprains, strains or to me the worst, ulnar nerve damage.

No, the thumb seems to be okay Mostly the ring finger and the small finger, although the whole back of my hand hurts. The back of my hand is swollen where the knuckles are supposed to be. Although I have to type gently with my right hand, my ring finger is the only one that I can't use right now. Just depressing the key hurts.

Sounds like you could tell a whopper about how you put your fist in the face of a charging bear so hard it jammed your knuckles!

So far as the two small fingers go, you could try to wrap a towel (or elbow sleeve) around the elbow to prevent your arm from bending whilst you sleep.
Yeah, I know it’s your hand and not your elbow but by not bending the elbow it allows the main nerve to the small fingers (ulnar) to relax hence less pain.
Also, although many folks find a lot of relief by using cold compresses, a hot water bath laced with a bunch of epson salts should take the swelling down considerably. Give it about 30 minutes or so in the bath (very hot bath) and within 4 or 5 hours you should be able to see knuckles again.

Our sofa has two recliners so I've been sleeping in what is essentially a reclining chair, although I am thinking of trying the bed tonight. I have used an ice pack from time to time, although running very warm water over it is comfortable too. I don't think I have any Epson salts but I do know that I don't have a bathtub. We use a shower, but that wouldn't prevent me from soaking my hand.

This may sound weird but have you thought about soaking your hand in epsom salt water? I wikied it and found this.

What toxins does Epsom salt remove?

Low levels of magnesium can ease the pain in people with arthritis. Epsom salt contains magnesium and may help the body get rid of toxins responsible for exacerbating inflammation while also reducing swelling, stiffness, and pain. Apr 26, 2018

We were thinking the same thing, how 'bout that. @Ken Anderson @Bobby Cole

I’ve done a lot of hiking, both here in Australia and overseas. Was in Crete last year, staying in a coastal town, and I heard of a nice hike to an inland village, Anidri. So I set out. I knew it was five kilometres away. What I didn’t know was that it was five kilometres uphill, and that particular day was going to be 35degrees Celsius. Just as well I had my hat, water bottle and hiking stick.
Anyway it was a wonderful walk, and there was a great taverna in the village.
Walking the five kilometres back was a breeze, all downhill.

Since there are enough posts to justify it, I have created a thread for TENS/EMS and have moved those posts there.
