14+ miles and some contusions to my right hand so I won't be verbose, given that I can't move the fingers on my right hand, and I am right-handed. It could be worse; I was afraid I had broken some bones. It was a beautiful day and a fabulous hike. Then I decided to work my way back to Millinocket on some logging roads that were off-map. I didn't even know where I was when I fell. I knew I wasn't far from Route 11 because I did have a compass and I was zigzagging on roads that generally parallelled Route 11. As it was, when I worked my way back to Route 11, I found that I was in Millinocket and not far from the hospital. My hand hurts a lot, and it was - is - swollen, but I had the X-rays done and no broken bones. I did break my glasses, though.

Rather than empathy from my cat, she's afraid of me, I guess because that hand doesn't look right to her.

    Here’s a small recommendation Ken.
Because of this bicep tendon problem, I bought a TENS/ EMS machine to help manage the pain and to get better circulation throughout the area.
On the TENS (transcutaneous electronic nerve stimulation) side of the machine, it sends a light array of electricity through the chosen area which kills the pain. On the EMS (electronic muscle stimulator) it does what it says. It stimulates the muscles and tendons which produces light to heavy contractions depending on the setting.
Whether on the TENS side or the EMS side, there is a higher amount of circulation which leads to faster healing and the increased endorphins ain’t bad either.

The whole thing cost me about $28 (Amazon) and I love the thing! I only hook up for about 10-15 minutes a day and I definitely feel like my recovery time has been shortened immensely!
Of course, I also bought some elbow sleeves to help keep me from damaging the tendons any further but I did stop using any anti-inflammatory medicine and also quit having to tape up with K-tape.

Note: I looked at your pic again and no....you do not look like you are enjoying things at all.
    Prayers for a fast healing!

I'm sure the hand will heal quite soon, Ken, what a fantastic place you visited though.

She is undoubtedly frustrated by the fact that you have your hand wrapped instead of licking it.

That's because it's from Mac Photo Booth. I can't handle a regular camera right now.

I wish I had confidence that they read the x-rays correctly because, having broken some bones in that hand before, this is what it felt like, and looked like. I can barely move the fingers in that hand, and it hurts when I try. I had to put the can in a vice in order to open a pop-up can of cat food. I think it's swollen more now than it was yesterday, although it's not purple anymore.

Might need an MRI Ken. There are so many things going on in the human hand that x-rays can’t pick up on. If it’s worse today than yesterday and if the insurance company will approve it, I’d get an MRI just because.

I'm sorry you fell and got hurt, Ken. Do you have an extra pair of glasses? You really did a job on your hand. Ouch! How did you fall?

I don't mean to be a doom sayer but what if you had broken an arm or leg that far from help? Do you have some way to get help? If you have the cell phone with you, be sure it's somewhere that you won't lose it in a fall. It would probably be a good idea to stay on solid ground, well worn paths.

You can say, "Yes, Mother" now. ;):D
