As a kid, it was a staple of my diet! Grilled cheese sandwiches, hot, at home, for lunch, because I could easily walk home, eat lunch, and return to class in time. But, looking over Chrissy's link, back then it actually MAY have been cheese! 60 years ago??

I do believe that a grilled cheese made with Velveeta tastes better than one made with real cheese. Then again, I like Spam and Hamburger Helper.

All I remember of cheeses when I was little was the government surplus cheese that came in a box wrapped in heavy plastic. It was delicious! We made cheese sandwiches spread with salad dressing (Kraft), grilled cheese sandwiches, and sometimes just by itself. Back then my older sister was in charge and she would make these for my younger sister and me. As a treat we would have some chocolate milk, yum, yum, yummy for my tum, tum, tummy.:)

I have never purchased Velveeta cheese though.

I have heard from everyone who has had it that the government cheese was great.

Perhaps back then, the government had "big cheeses" running it!

I love velveta cheese and hot rotel tomato dip. Sometimes I literally crave it. When this hsppens, i will make a meal of the dip and chips. Then I will be ok for a couple of months until another craving hits.

@Texas Beth , Now your talking. We always fixed that when we would have surprise company. The only difference was that I would brown up a pound of spices hot pan sausage, (draining the meat of grease on paper towels), to add to the Rotel tomatoes and Velveeta cheese. Yes, it was really hot, but the dip went farther.

    Yuck, yuck and yuck!

I'll put salsa in cottage cheese or cream cheese but nothing sweet.

But I will eat yogurt with fruit....weird.
