We have completely stopped wearing a mask, but still have a full box of them. Perhaps something is in the air where we live/city, because anytime we have breakfast in a crowded place, like we did last Saturday, where there is very little space in-between customers, we end up somewhat sick.

IOW, weird, but we went to a rather large dinner (numerous people sitting close to each other at tables), in a city some 132 miles south of us (Colorado Springs) and never got sick at all.

You've mentioned before routinely having stomach issues when eating out. It's interesting that you seemed to be OK at that distant event. And I don't recall your saying anything about it when you go to rodeo events and spend several days away from home (which is when you'd expect a nervous stomach to be most sensitive.) And you never mention getting sick when generally out & about running errands, so it's not likely to be something in the local air. Interesting. I wonder if there are cleanliness issues at some of the local places you eat.

Well, with the "out and about" thing, it seems like if we go into a local grocery store here, for any amount of time, we have stomach problems and bring out the Pepto Bismol.

Actually, we don't know if it's "cleanliness" issues or there are people that are sick and still go out to eat breakfast. The dining areas of these places look fine, but to take a look at the inside of any restaurant kitchen, management doesn't want, or like, that. So..........

Now, last year on our trip to Dodge City, Kansas, I got the craps really bad. Almost didn't make it to the restroom in local casino. The night before, we had dinner in a very full (of people) restaurant. But, that was last year.

Let's put it this way, John, we've bought so many bottles of Pepto Bismol, we could've been rich if we would've bought stock in the product. Well, not really, but.

I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't know. There may be other stuff going on with you.

I think I've mentioned this before about myself. I'll go through phases where if I eat out, the food seems to "go right through me." It's often a rush to get home. Greasy food is the worst. There are lots of underlying issues that can cause this. I think mine is a nervous stomach that starts to contract immediately and then causes the colon to begin contracting all the way to the end and pushes out poop-in-process (it's not the meal I just ate that "went right through me.") It's not all the time. And I can go for months or even a couple of years of dining out without an episode. And it never happens when I eat at home, even if I have pork BBQ and fries done in a pan of oil as I did yesterday...that's the part I don't understand.

The thing I learned from my doctor about Pepto is it can alleviate the symptoms of a ton of stuff. It's the WD40 of tummy meds...and that kinda presents a problem. The fact that Pepto fixes it is not a clue to the underlying issue...Pepto fixes nearly all gastric distress, regardless of the cause.

John, neither of us had this, and we both get it, until the Covid 19 started. We'd even wear a mask into a grocery store and, by that evening or the next evening, it was toilet and Pepto time.

Interesting. One would think that if you picked up any bug that you would subsequently be resistant to it...I would think that it should not cause your problems over and over and over, especially to hit you that hard that fast. I guess food-borne illnesses can do that, but you're not eating anything in the grocery store.

I wonder if others in your area are likewise infected. Have you had this happen both masked and unmasked? I know you made mention of a maskless dining event out of the area where you felt fine. And if you drove your Durango there, there's nothing in your vehicle's ventilation system that's infecting you. Have you talked to your doctor about it? It just seems weird.

edit to add: I just reread where you went to breakfast unmasked and got sick, so there's nothing in your masks doing it to you. Man, this is weird.

You'd better dig your masks out again, Cody, because the freak who heads the Department of Health & Human Services says we need to return to the mask mandates. -- NY Post

Of course, I can see why he/her/it would like to have an excuse to wear a mask, although this probably has more to do with the midterm elections being over.

We're having a more-severe-than-normal flu season because of all the masking & distancing (and most likely immunosuppressing shots.)

The sales of masks has taken a huge dive and the probability that the head of the CDC has investments centered around mask making companies…..

Took my wife to the dentist last Thursday, and, unlike the last dentist office she went to, no mask wearing was required. I have a VA Medical appt. next month and they still require wearing a mask. We have a new pack of them at home and some in a plastic storage bag in our vehicle, but so far, haven't been wearing them.
