My wife just made some tv cookies. In case you don't know what these are exactly, in this case they were cut and bake peanut butter cookies placed in the toaster-broiler to bake, after which she went into watch tv. She forgot the cookies and they burned. That's when I started coughing while wondering what that awful smell was. By the time we figured out it was cookies burning, the house was filled with smoke, I was coughing so I could not speak. The smoke alarms in our house were sounding off, one after the other. I had to vacate the premeses. Sometime I can eat some of the tv cookies if not burned too bad, most often though they have to be tossed out. These were more like charcoal and had to be tossed.

The good wife's intentions were good and I hope she bakes some more, but tv cookies are becoming more and more the rule and not the exception. But that's okay as long as our fire insurance is good.

Maybe set a timer to go off when they're done.

We do have a timer and she said she had it set. but I've found we forget how to set it correctly or, our hearing is so bad we don't hear it. She wears her hearing aid when we go out in public. I wear mine when I think I'll need it; neither of us wear them at home. But likkeI say, we're working on a solution.

Get chocolate chip ones and microwave them for 30 seconds. They are yummy.

Don't bother baking cookies....not good for you and a fire hazard to boot!

Stores sell good cookies if you must have them.

Make that timer a PORTABLE timer, or use your phone if you can. Carry the timer with you and you should be able to tell when it goes off. My wife uses the stove timer or the microwave, but then gets distracted doing something else, and discovers it when the smoke alarm goes off. I have a three position portable timer that I can carry with me when I have stuff going on.

    Even experienced bakers have problems.

    Good luck!
