    "Utah teen killed by falling rocks during family vacation at Glacier National Park"

    "The family was riding in their vehicle at around 7 p.m. when multiple rocks came crashing down from a nearby mountain, landing on the vehicle's roof and shattering the rear window, park officials said."

    Glacier Park is one of the most incredibly scenic places I've seen. My ex and old friend Charlie hiked the 8-mile trail up to Grinnell Glacier in 1974. It actually looks like this:

    Things like this just demonstrate that thankfully man has not totally conquered nature. Every few years there is a tourist or two killed by falling rock in a couple of our state parks. Just the way the cookie crumbles,tragic for those involved,but on the whole better than the government closing the place for "your safety, think of the children"

    Sad for sure. When I see the "falling rocks" signs I always wonder how to escape them. Glacier is a beautiful place.

    Yeah, I'll never look at another one without getting nervous.

    We have folks die here every year from "natural causes. Just a year ago, the 17 year-old son of friends, who we have known since shortly after he was born, fell to his death while hiking a trail he had hiked dozens of times in his life. He was a fine kid, and, unusually, his mother dealt with his death far better than did his father, a Marine major. We just had a 33 year-old die while hunting mountain sheep yesterday. Avalanche kill people every year, and falling rocks kill and injure people almost every year on major highways in Alaska...and then there are plane crashes and people who just disappear and are never found.

    The signs used to say "fallen" rock. I guess so you wouldn't hit them with your car. The chance of getting hit by one while it's falling would be so small, but it obviously happens. The picture with this sign is misleading. ;)

    @Nancy Hart
    Driving in the mountains of Germany and Switzerland, we often encountered this sign:

    As @Beth Gallagher pointed out, where do you go? It's not like you can veer off to the left or right.

    Hmmm. I've actually never seen one that says "fallen" rock.

    @Beth Gallagher
    Come to think of it, I haven't either.......(fallen rock). Seems like either may not suffice for "CYA" purposes.
