Those Old Commercials We Loved And Believed Back When

We have a thread on the forum about how much we all hate the commercials that seem to take up most of the program time on television, and most of them seem to be about funeral insurance, suing some drug company, needing a catheter, or naming your car "Brad".
I was thinking back today about the commercials I listened to as a child growing up, and some of them we actually sang along to, like the Oscar Meyer wiener song.
We ate our Wheaties (even though they were not colorful and full of sugar) because we all knew it was the Breakfast of Champions.
Our sandwiches were made from Wonder Bread because it "built strong bodies 12 ways", and we drank Coca-Cola because of course, "things go better with Coke".
On Saturday night we washed our hair with Halo Shampoo, because all of the girls wanted to ba a Halo Girl, (you can tell by the shine of her hair), and our mothers used Camay, the "soap of beautiful women", and put Noxema on their face faithfully each night.
The guys of course had to use Bryll Cream because a "little dab'll do ya" (use more only if you dare..), and everybody washed their mouth with Listerine.
Even beer commercials were entertaining back then. I always loved the little bear in the Hamm's Beer commercials, and was infatuated with the Marlboro Man.
No one even thought about advertising personal products (you know which ones I mean) , and all of the commercials were upbeat, eye-catching, and family-friendly. We even believed what they told us and used their products happily.
I know there were lots more of those old advertisements that we grew up with; but these are the first ones that come to mind.

I loved the older style too - not so noisy and to the point
    Sometimes I don't even know what's being advertised today - bizzare o_O
The very first ad here was for Gibbs SR Toothpaste.
I loved the Hovis ad - its brown bread made over here, the ad was done in sepia with a little lad, wearing flat cap,
pushing his bike up a long hill to deliver Hovis - with wonderful old music in the background
Aah - those were the days - simple and loverly :)

That is funny, @Chrissy Cross ! I recognized the Breck Girl image, and didn't even notice that the rest of the commercial was not in English. I had to go back and look to see what you were referring to with your post.
I think that Breck and Halo were pretty much contemporaries, although Halo might have been first.
Here is an old Halo commercial. We didn't have TV until I was a teenager, but I remember seeing the shampoo ads in magazines, too.

I have a vague memory of it now...maybe. The song sounds familiar but I do know I never used it. Always remembering using Breck.

My favorite perfume at that time was Heaven Sent but I don't remember if it was the original by Helena Rubinstein or buy Dana. It was in the 60's.

I think they advertised it as being a little bit naughty but Heavenly....just like me. Hahahaha:)

I think I would still buy it...my favorite scent besides Lily of the Valley or Mouget de Bois. :)

The above isn't a very good video and the sound goes out on the cigarette commercial. :(

The old commercials were so much better. Commercials like the head lines, are very misleading also. I miss the little frito bandito guy.

The devolution of commercials into every personal aspect of our lives is beyond my ken. At one time no bra ad would run, now it's anything from erection to crotch odors and graphic too.
The good old days had selective class, certain subjects-certain hours, now it's simply ubiquitous crass vulgarisms.

    Bloody rot sez I ;)
