I buy frozen oven chips. I line the baking tray with foil, then place the chips on the foil Lately, when I come to remove the foil, there is oil on the baking tray ! Now how does that happen ? Its like magic - magic I can do without
No Not odd Patsy me darlin'... Oven chips are coated in Sunflower oil..... https://www.ocado.com/webshop/product/McCain-Oven-Chips-Straight-Cut-frozen/15831011
Ha ha - tried that I'm gonna double up on the foil next time - if it still happens .....................
Patsy, if this is a new box of foil you are using is it possible it is the "non stick" foil rather than regular foil. I use non stick sometimes and there is a different look to it after cooking.
I use both, but haven't needed to use the non stick version for the chips They are different and I would be able to tell the difference - strange little tale isn't it ............... @Missy Lee
Oh no Holly, I use 3 different types of foil as it is, I've only got a little flat ya know What with bin liners and bags ........... I'll try doubling the foil Still think its strange ...............
I agree with @Holly Saunder's idea of using parchment paper instead of aluminum foil, and I think that I would get rid of the foil, or at least not buy any more when it is used up. When I worked in the kitchen at the academy, we were told to use a sheet of Saran Wrap between the aluminum foil and the food because of the dangers of the foil once it comes in contact with food that is being cooked. The one who can explain it best would probably be @Bobby Cole , since he has been a professional chef for many years. He has explained to me the dangers of using foil in cooking; but I do not remember all the details , just that it is bad. Like @Chrissy Cross , we do not eat potatoes and seldom use the oven; but when we do, I now use the parchment paper and not the aluminum foil. Potato is one of the most inflammatory foods, especially when it has the processed oils on it, and because of my heart failure and the arthritis, I try to avoid any foods that cause inflammation and the resulting pain that comes with inflammation. I love baked potatoes, and even French fries (chips to you, @Patsy Faye ); but now they are a rare part of my diet.
Oh I agree with you @Yvonne Smith ..I remember reading a long time ago that aluminium foil should never come in contact particularly with fatty food... I can't remember any more tho''..I must look it up. BTW Chips and French fries are both used here...the difference is Chips are chunky and thick, whereas French fries are skinny like the ones you get at Macdonalds et al..
