I did not know about the intestinal downside. I just figured it was like celery...zero nutritional value.

I think that pertains to people with digestive issues; I have never heard of it "packing down in the intestine." I was curious about that so I did a few searches; most results say that iceberg gets a bad rap and is actually a nutritious food. https://www.fanaticallyfood.com/is-iceberg-lettuce-hard-to-digest/

I have a bit of diverticulosis but no problem with any lettuces.

Frankly, I don't care. I like all types of lettuce so I eat it. (Simply a carrier for my salad dressing of choice.) I also like potato chips, so you can see that the nutritional value isn't a big deal to me. :p

At restaurants I always ask if there is a choice of lettuce, if no, I skip the salad, if yes, I ask for romaine or baby spinach. These two are what I buy for salads at home. Baby spinach is new to me and kind of bitter but it has a good nutritional value.

Good link, Beth. I must have an intolerance because I really suffered after eating iceberg lettuce. I was misdiagnosed with diverticulosis in my teen years come to find out after having a laparoscopy I had endometriosis, that's another story.
