Do y'all get Mayflies? I had never encountered them that I know of, before moving here. They descend en masse usually at the beginning of May, much like the june bugs do later on. Some early arrivals have been here for a week or two, but the full army has now arrived. They get in any crack, and in this house, there are quite a few cracks. I'll be sweeping around the doors and windows for days now. Here's what it looked like in my area last night. mAY FLIES.jpg

Yes, we get them in my area too. When I worked the night shift as a toll collector on our bridge over the Mississippi river, we sometimes had to shut off the bridge lights to keep the roadway from getting too slippery from squashed mayflies.

I am not quite sure what you are meaning by those flies, but up here we get Black Flies that bite and are the biggest nuisance of all..
They are out all day but are very heavy come sunset.. They only last for about 3 or 4 weeks and then out come the famous mosquito ....

No, they don't bite. They're just a terrible mess when they die.

We have what they call "Country Bugs"..... in our case those are Box Elder Beetles and orange Lady bugs. They are everywhere and country folks are used to them.. I imagine your May Flys fall into that category.

Yes, and we have Box Elder bugs and the lady bugs here in Iowa too. Lots of little black gnats that bite and musketeers too. I hate those gnats worse than the others.

I don't think we have them here, at least not by that name. I have heard of them but haven't seen any.

We have up here in North Bay something called "Shad Flies" that come out from the lake in June and are the biggest nuisance you ever saw.. They don't bite, but stink to high hell.. They literally cover the city for about 10 days or so and make life just miserable during that time.. When you walk, you are crunching them on the sidewalk and they really stink.. Driving is also something else as they cover the road completely..

PLEASE GOOGLE ..... SHAD FLIES IN NORTH BAY .............
