Started watching this a few days ago. Think there are two seasons so far. It's on Hulu which I don't have so I bought season 1 on Amazon Prime.

Ive watched 5 episodes and I really like it. Also got the book on kindle for free the other day.

Based on the best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood, this series is set in Gilead, a totalitarian society in what used to be part of the United States. Gilead is ruled by a fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state, and is faced with environmental disasters and a plummeting birth rate. In a desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world, the few remaining fertile women are forced into sexual servitude. One of these women, Offred, is determined to survive the terrifying world she lives in, and find the daughter that was taken from her.

It sounds like the antithesis of a novel of the 1960's named Limbo in which the men of the world are turned into sexual toys and women rule everything. That was never made into a movie that I know of as it was too controversial at the time. I think I still have a copy around somewhere....

Never heard of that! But I do like the idea of women ruling everything and men being sexual toys, lol.

    I'm just kidding...........Maybe. :p

I've seen the first season, and it's very good. I'll probably have to start over in order to follow it now though.

Yes and unlike some Dystopian novels or shows this seems possible. I can't stand watching the zombie ones.

One or two zombie movies were fine, but there have been entirely too many of them.

Well I finished Season 1 and enjoyed it very much...give it 5 stars.

The only way for me to watch season 2 is thru Hulu which I don't have or want. Boohoo.

I have Hulu but a problem with Hulu is that they often have things on for only a short time. I cut the cord because I didn't want to wait a week for another episode of a series, which I may or may not remember to tune into. I prefer binge-watching. Yet with Hulu, if I wait for a series to be over before watching it, or even if I wait for a season to be over, sometimes, they will remove the earlier episodes. More than once, my wife would tell me about a series she was watching on Hulu but, by then, the first few episodes had already been removed. Plus, I have a hard time finding things on Hulu so, although I have it, I rarely watch it.

Guess I'll just wait until I can buy it on Amazon like I did for season 1...don't know when that will be because I don't even know when season 1 aired.

I love the show. I am also a lover of all things dystopian.

I''m wondering why you don't get Hulu. I have it and spend the extra $2.00 or whatever to skip all ads. Of course, we don't have cable or satellite, and there are no stations we could get with antenna.

It could certainly be less expensive than buying from Amazon Prime.

It's about $8.00 a month, but if that's not in your range, you could always wait until the end, sign up for Hulu, then binge-watch Handmaid's Tale, then stop your subscription.

The first season was supposed to be the only season, as it went through the whole book. I was afraid that they wouldn't be able to keep it consistent and still good, but the second season, so far, is fabulous!

I really like this show, but that birth scene was really pretty difficult to believe! I was trying to figure out what happened with the umbilical cord cutting...I was still pondering that question when Nick showed up, and I forgot the problem immediately. :)

LOL! Agreed. He's clumsy and unworldly in a lot of ways. Reminds me of a guy I had a crush on in high school.

It's been so long since I watched Season 1 that I don't know what's going on in Season 2 so I am starting over with S1E1.

Maybe the reason y'all are enjoying it more than I did when I first started reading it is because y'all have "Met" the characters in the story. It sort of gives you something to relate to. I called the library today and asked the librarian to save it for me when it comes back in.

    I'm going to scream!

We watched the latest episode this morning, right up until the last five minutes of the show!

What in the world happened?? The Marthas were fabulous, and all looked well, and then...I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet, but what made her make that strange decision? Surely there was room for her and Nichole.

Where will she be able to go? I thought she was inspired by the Marthas and decided to join in. But Ken point out that she can't go home, and that red dress will stop her from everything unless she has a post.

On another note: I was just getting to understand and like Aunt Lydia. I think the secret with her is to have a baby, then she gets nice. :)
