Can a wall of trees stop the Sahara from spreading?

Wow, that is quite a pic. it is amazing to see something like this in the middle of the desert. I think that many people might wish to look at that in the context of a huge desert. It makes me wonder how an oasis forms. I mean one spot of green in a huge desert? There must be some kind of underground water source or something that feeds them.

@K E Gordon , If you click on the blue"Wall of trees" link, you will find the article about how they are replanting desert areas with trees. This picture could be the result of this project.

This is great to know and I always hoped that the dessert is where people would harness solar power source too. It's wonderful that people have great hope for places even a dessert!

Ohh interesting. However, truly all of the desert oasis that can be found can't be a result of this project. My thought is that there has to be some kind of underground water source with most of them. However, I don't know much about them except that they exist. I will read the article.

The photo was taken by george Steinmetz, from a paraglider. You are correct, that a hidden water source must exist, which keeps them alive. The project to plant trees in the desert has been an up-hill stuggle. The article is very long, but very informative.
