I was just sitting here thinking... and a song I haven't heard for a *very* long time popped into my head, so I'm sharing it. I hadn't realized back then how extremely powerful this song was!! And nothing much has changed on this ol' planet. :( (I did a search and didn't see a thread like this... hope it's not a dupe.)

What are your favorite Elvis songs?

Not an Elvis fan so will have to listen to a few and get back to you. Probably his later ones like "In the Ghetto" though.

In the ghetto did have powerful lyrics I agree , unlike most of his other songs, but ...nope I never could understand the Elvis phenomena tbh!!

I'm not a fan either... just thought of this song a while ago. :D By the time I was old enough to appreciate music, Elvis wasn't so popular anymore... and I didn't exist for most of the 50s.

Yep, mine too... my mom probably liked him... not sure. Maybe not, since she never mentioned it. :) I do like his Can't Help Falling In Love... but it makes me bawl like a baby.

I am definitely an Elvis fan, and one of my regrets is that I did not get to see him when he was performing live at Spokane, back when I was a teenager, and Elvis was still doing tours like that. My mom said it was either Elvis or Rex Allen , and I wanted to see Rex Allen. Oh, well. But I have always wished that I made a different choice. I do not think that Elvis ever came back to Spokane after that one time.
Here is one of the songs that has always been one of my favorites. It was never one of the really popular ones; but just one that I really liked.

Oh, that's pretty, @Yvonne Smith ! I'd never once heard this one before. Shall I admit that I have no idea who Rex Allen is? Oh well, I said it, so now you know! (I think I told you that in another thread a few weeks ago, too, now that I think of it.) :)

When we were teens we used to sing the parody words to are you lonesome tonight...

    Are you lonesome tonight
    Is your brassiere too tight
is your corset all falling apart..

    Does your scraggy old chest
    hang out of your vest
..and you feel you've been left in the dark

    Are your stockings all tattered
    Your shoes wearing thin
Do you hold up your knickers, with a big safety pin

Without teeth you can't yawn,..and your glamour is gone..

    It's no wonder , you're lonesome tonight... :D

...with apolgies to all Elvis fans everywhere..uhuhuhuhuh..

Rex Allen was , along with Roy Rogers, one of my most favorite Cowboys,@Mari North , and his horse was a gorgeous chocolate palomino named KoKo, which is a very unusual color for horses.
Rex Allen narrated many of the early Disney documentary movies that were stories about animals, and he has one of the most beautiful and mellow speaking voices ever.
I loved listening to him sing also, as well as watching him in the western movies. and I used to get all of the Rex Allen comic books when they came out.
Here is one of his songs, and maybe you will recognize the voice when you listen to it.

I'm not really fond of music but I can relate to Elvis based on the story of my husband's eldest brother. He was in high school when Elvis was on his throne of popularity in the 1960s. My husband's brother Al was so enamoured with Elvis that he would write his name on the testpaper as Alvin Presley although is real name is Alfonso. You can guess that he flunked his class because of his insistence of using Alvin and the middle name Presley. All his books have that name all over - front, back and even on the side which said "real property of Alvin Presley." He was really a die-hard Elvis fan.

When he died in 2007 of aneurysm, my husband did an informal docu of his wake and burial and uploaded it in youtube with an Elvis song for the soundtrack.

When I was growing up my dad bought Elvis' albums and my oldest sister and I used to sing duets to his songs. I can't really say I was a fan of his, but I have always had an interest in Elvis because of my dad's interest in him. Until my dad bought those albums I didn't know he even liked music...nor did I know that there must have been a wild streak in him somewhere because Elvis at the time was considered a rebel in the music field. When my dad bought Elvis' albums it showed me a side of him I never knew existed and let me see a person and not just my dad.

Oh, that was nice! The man certainly had a smooth voice. Oh dear! I love learning new things, so I just looked up his bio... what a horrible sad ending he suffered! :( Was it ever determined if he had fallen first?

Oh, and his son was a country music artist... I really should have recognized at least the son... hmmm... not really active since the late 80s, a little into the 90s. I got into the music business in '98. Okay, now I feel better. o_O

Going into 1956, I was so ready for Elvis! Fell in love with everything Elvis.. bought all his albums & 45's ... joined a huge fan club and collected photos from everywhere, of anything Elvis. It was good times.

His first sounds were more rockabilly than rock n roll, but I followed it all.
Saw him in concert only once. I was just out of high school, and went with my future husband.

When my older cousin got married her husband mentioned he was in the same company in the army as Elvis. I thought he was teasing until he brought out his yearbook and I saw the photos! He played touch football with Elvis on Sundays in the army. Even tough I wasn't a fan, I was still very impressed!

There is a few Elvis songs I like, but Elvis was no actor and his movies sucked, IMO.
The last "lady" I dated was a die hard Elvis fan. One day I was driving her someplace and she was babbling about the Elvis song that was just played on my car radio. I casually mentioned that Elvis had a few good songs. "FEW GOOD SONGS"! she screamed, and punched me right in the crotch. That was our last date. th (23).jpe

Oh, I agree with you 100% Ike ..... I could never, ever watch any of his movies!!! So bad!
It was an embarrassment to his music talent ... He was a singer, not an actor.

"You'll Never Walk Alone" is my favorite Elvis Song.
I posted it a while ago in the Peace thread but it's worth another listen :)

When I was a kid growing up, my parents would always sing together, and as I learned their old songs, I loved to join in.
Naturally, when I grew up and had kids of my own, we also all sang together.
They learned the songs that I had grown up listening to, Elvis (my favorite, of course), Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Harry Belafonte, and many others. My son Michael is till a great Elvis fan, while my oldest son, Tony, seems to favor the old Johnny Cash songs now.
I guess that it was just natural that my grandsons would also grow up singing, and music is a big part of their lives, as well.

Here is a music video , written and performed by my oldest grandson, and videoed by the younger one. They have a YouTube channel, and he has a record album with this song on iTunes; so I am (understandably ) proud of both of them.
I am sure that my mom and dad are watching down from Heaven, and glad that they taught me to enjoy singing when I was young, too.

What a talented cutie-pie and a great video! No wonder you're proud of your grandsons @Yvonne Smith ! He plays that guitar well and writes his own lyrics, wow. I especially like the phrase, "a symphony of silver tears and I'm lost". I wish them all the best :)
