Quite the entrepreneur, Steve Wynn. My neighbor's father worked at Wynn's Mirage in Vegas as a Head Security Agent. Wynn, very devout, nonetheless signed Michael Jackson on for a gig, knowing of the performer's less than decent ways. After the first night's opening, stories emerged from Jackson's suite, and Wynn had the father "bug" the suite, illegal, of course, which revealed some atrocious "young boy" behavior. By morning Jackson's name was already gone off the big marquis out front, his concert mysteriously canceled, ostensibly by himself. I can imagine the confrontation: Wynn telling him to leave, or tapes will be given to the Sheriff. Too bad, I do not think Mormon Ralph Lamb was still Clark County Sheriff then, anymore! The lavish Wynn Palace — six years in the making and costing $4.1 billion — threw open its doors Monday in Macau as the world's biggest casino market remains in the grips of a gaming slump. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/steve...yb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--
We have been to Macau twice and it's only now that I learned that Wynn is a name of a person. What I know is a certain Stanley Ho who owns a casino chain in Macau and also in the Philippines. In fact, he owned the floating casino in Manila Bay that failed to operate due to regulations - I don't know the real issue on this. It's hard to describe the casinos in Macau. They have their own gimmicks which are unique. But the common in those casinos are the sexy-clad women in the reception area. My husband had taken several selfies with those sexy women.
@Corie Henson Cory, for the record, and as best I remember it: Steve Wynn's father was the originator of the Golden Nugget Casino in downtown Las Vegas way back when. He went on to build several luxury hotels there, the Mirage, which has an "operating" volcano out in front of it! The other, I'm not certain of the name, but his own name is in it, Wynn-something, a catch-phrase taken from "Win" I suppose. A good description is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Wynn My ex-wife, Germany-born Cosmetologist, worked at the Mirage Beauty Salon from the day it opened, 20 years, when Wynn sold the property, and the new owners asked her to retire. A story for another time and place, Frank EDIT: Wynn's first major Strip casino was The Mirage, which was the first time Wynn was personally involved with the design and construction of a casino.
@Frank Sanoica, thanks for the added info about Wynn. You are like a historian who is always providing historical tidbits in this forum. My only knowledge of Las Vegas is via the tv series Vegas which stars Robert Ulrich (I hope I got the name correctly). And my dream of going to Vegas was snuffed by the disapproval of my husband because his 2 sisters are residing right there and my husband doesn't want any association with them. Well, that's another story.
I knew the name Wynn sounded familiar. I'm also glad you provided some historical background @Frank Sanoica. The economy is not good, and the world appears to be in flux, but I don't think that will hold the casino industry down for long. The millionaires and billionaires will play somewhere, and I'm sure they'll eventually be attracted to the site.
