You're doing great @Steve North ...thanks for giving us a glimpse into what surgery is like. Don't think it will be an option for me though living alone.

I have an MRI this Friday of my shoulder and Saturday of my lower spine...decided to split it up because it would have been too long for me in one appointment.

I'm more interested in the results on my shoulder anyway...that's been hurting more than my back.

Chrissy.. I cannot be with you physically, but I can be with you morally..
I know it is quite the challenge when you live alone.. Depends what has to be done to your shoulder..

I have NO idea why I am up at this hour..
It is now 3:15am and it is raining extremely hard with violent winds and for some unknown reason I have developed a pain in my shoulder bad enough to wake me up and take a pain killer..
Today (Friday) I have physiotorture like I do every Monday and Friday.. How I will cope is something else to be seen.. Perhaps the pain will be gone by then..
My physio is at 2:00pm and it lasts for just over one hour.. We then go to MacDonald's for a coffee after, to just calm down.. We generally go to the supermarket to do some food shopping after that.. Grocery store, general store, and whatever other shopping we have to do including taking gas for the car..
By then it is close to 6:00pm supper time so we often go out for supper, somewhere, rather than go home, unload, unpack, make supper, and by then it is almost 7:30 and I am totally pooped.........
Grab a bite out and get it done.. Besides it is like a break for me not to cook for one supper..

PS..... The pain is just starting to go after about 35 minutes since I took my pain killer pill..
The pain killer I take is Oxycodone which is a fast acting pain killer..

Well, I survived the day of torture..
They started a new set of exercises this session which means the shoulder was moved in different positions, and that means a bit of pain because of the stiffness.. Not that bad, now that a few hours have past.. I didn't take a pain pill, so it isn't all that bad, even if there is a bit of tenderness..
Coffee was well appreciated after, along with a bit of a rest at our local Macdonald's..
Food shopping wasn't that bad as we are going away for a few days to see my doctor, so it was a smaller order..
Gas I didn't take, which means I will take some in our village on Saturday instead.. It is a wee bit more expensive but who cares, considering the small amount my car takes..

We are leaving early on Sunday morning and returning later on in the day on Monday..
I will be gone from here for the 2 days.....

I saw my specialist and he took X-Rays of my shoulder.. He moved about my arm in different positions and was extremely pleased with the progress I have made in 8 weeks..
Told me he never expected me to be this far advanced after only 8 weeks.. No restrictions at all except don't pick-up anything heavy till I regain some muscle in the arm..
I can even now sleep on my right side without any fear..

Next appointment will be on December 4th..

I am so sorry that you're going through this pain, Steve and pray that things will get considerably better soon.

    Ken...
    Pain is all gone..
I still have some stiffness but that is also coming to an end..
I definitely have a weak arm and I have to build up the muscles in both the arm and shoulder..
I haven't taken a pain killer in some time..

I went for my physiotorture session on Friday and I was started on some muscle building exercises..
Pulling the weights from the wall and also the bicycle using the arms..
It was good but after, it felt quite painful as some muscles were used that were sleeping..
it has been 9 weeks now and I have started weight exercises..

And I thought getting an MRI was a big deal and torture! I hope it doesn't show I need surgery.

Glad you are almost there, @Steve North. After all your therapy is over, you are good as new! After reading all your posts..you went through pain hell but you did it....

    CONGRATULATIONS!

Well, reading and heeding, I gotta reveal that despite my hardheadedness, soon I must ask about relief. The neck pain prevents turning my head much more than 45` side to side, hurts up and down also, all the while such movement injects pain where the collarbone meets the shoulder. Then, there's those, can't lift elbows much above level, light switch pull strings in my shop I reach using pliers.

Take no pain killers, yet. Hate having been thrown into such an unexpected facet of old age after a lifetime of resilient flexibility of body. God Damn me for doing whatever I did over this lifetime, to influence HIM to point to me.......Frank

My physio is by no means near over.. I will be going twice a week (Mondays and Fridays) till at least the end of November if not later than that..
I have a follow-up appointment with my Orthopedic Specialist on the 4th of December and I suspect I will be in physio till at least then.....

    Frank...
You have options and you know what they are..
Continue as you are with suffering and complaining and not having a good quality of life..................... or.......
Take a few pain killers once in a while to give you a pleasant life........

YOUR CHOICE !!!! .............. I know what I would do.......... Forget the pain and suffering and take those pills...

@Frank Sanoica , it seems to me like the first option you should take is to see a doctor and find out what is causing the pain. It may be that it can be treated surgically. It sounds to me like you have a nerve that is being pinched by a collapsed vertebra. That will be $5.00, please. I take cash, check or credit cards. :D

    @Cody Fousnaugh
My apologies, Cody. Just one remark I would like to make here, that being my lack of reverence or sustenance supported by belief in God, I have never, EVER, exercised in defiance or deference to the statements of others who were religiously oriented. IOW, I NEVER request others to lay off of the religious talk, and feel those religious others are stepping beyond by asking me to alter my personal beliefs.

More succinctly stated, I have respect for your beliefs, but cannot respect a request from you that I alter my own beliefs, based on your insistence that I am in the wrong, and you are in the right.

    Make any sense?

    Frank

Absolutely makes full sense, however, this still doesn't address the problem you have with pain...

Ok, Frank. Don't know exactly what you mean above, but I just don't like seeing certain words in a forum. Not trying to change your beliefs, but certain words don't belong in any forum, even though some forum of young adults, can be full of those words.
    IOW, Frank, we're good.

My shoulder is doing better every week..
I am now doing weight exercises at physio and am getting stronger as time goes on..
I do my exercises every day at home and it shows in the recovery..
sometimes I do a bit too much and get some pain from the strain, so I use ice to decrease the strain and it helps..

Gee, I kinda thought at least some of my virtues stood out far enough to warrant consideration for waiver of payment......though I am fully aware I possess precious few (virtues).

What was this thread about, anyhoo?
