I've loved Stephen Foster's songs ever since boyhood, but I guess I shouldn't like them now, in our Racist-Conscious world.....

Example from "My Old Kentucky Home"

"Oh, the sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home,
It's summer, the Darkies are gay."

    See?

Nothing new. For example, the words of Old Man River were changed many times since the original version was written in 1927. As far back as in the 30's and the 60's they were changed. I doubt seriously that many people got all bent out of shape over the changes back then. But I don't know for sure.

Even John Wayne is bad nowadays, @Hal Pollner ; time to take out that full-size poster and burn it so people won’t think that you are a racist....

Yes, Yvonne, I read an article this AM at how someone wants to take down John Wayne's statue at the airport and change anything there that is related to him as well as change the name of the airport. In a 1971 interview with Playboy, he did say some very racial statements that, back then things were very different from today.

Next, there will be those that will go after anyone involved in the movie, Bringing Down The House, with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah and/or the old tv show The Carmichaels. And, what about all of the comedians in America that have done jokes about different races, including George Lopez. To us, great comedians, but definitely not to those young folk protesters of today.

"Oh, the sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home,
It's summer, the Darkies are gay."

Those lyrics were changed long ago to:

"Oh, the sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home,
It's summer, the "young folks" are gay."

LBJ was one of the most racist people who ever lived. I think they should tear down all the statues of him and burn his presidential library.

Is Robert Byrd's statue still in the Capital Rotunda?

Bill Clinton's eulogy was the epitome of B.S. "He was only a Klansman because it was politically necessary."

The thing I disliked most about LBJ was a press photo of him lifting a dog by its ears.

This caused a furor among all the dog lovers in the country!

He was a disgusting man. I read a book by a former White House butler who was on staff during the LBJ years. He said LBJ liked to walk around the living quarters NAKED, and he'd have daily briefings while sitting on the toilet. Wouldn't you love to attend those? What a classy guy.
