A glimpse of the American illustrator Tasha Tudor's kitchen in her new old house built for her by her son Seth using old tools and construction methods. .
@Beatrice Taylor In the last pic in #48, it could be noted that good practice for wood-burning stoves was to not have them standing directly on wood flooring. I can remember metal-edged sheets of asbestos board sold at hardware stores, for use where fire danger existed. Frank
Again the best thread here ! My aunt's was just like several here. Her stove had a plate for the iron to heat. We had heated bricks wrapped in towels in the winter under our covers to keep our feet warm.

I'm sorry, Ken. Apparently since I got a red warning, I'm the worst culprit. I did see your message about that the first time you posted it, and have been trying to upload, instead of link, since then, but a handful of images just aren't as impressive squeezed down. Won't do it again.
No, no. Not a warning at all. I just didn't want you wondering what the thumbnail image was all about, knowing that you hadn't put it there.
The washing up area in the kitchen... the sinks are really deep, and in those days the average woman was only about 5 feet tall so the kitchen maids would have suffered from very painful backs.. ...plus those copper pots are HUGE... the photo doesn't really show the enormous size of the kitchen
They had no fridges or freezers, so they kept everything cold in the pantry which has stone she;ves and flooring... this food is fake btw... but it's even realistic to look at close up...
