I think you're right. I read this some where before. Only trouble is, I can't sing. But what I do is maybe not as good but it feeds my soul. I have an old songbook, a 1956 issue. Lots of Stamps-Baxter songs and older hymnals. It belonged to my neighbor who died a couple of years back. His family had a garage saleand sold all his stuff. I bought his songbook. We used to play harmonicas together. He told me of the songbook he bought when he went to a state singing in Tulsa. He had a wonderful voice and could sing them all. He sang and I played. Would have sounded better if I'd played a guitar, but he liked it. The songbook is Heavenly Highway Hymns, shape notes only, published by the Stamps -Baxter Music Company. I start at the beginning, page by page and play the songs on my harmonicas. I've gone through it several times. Now I'm doing it again, playing the songs I know and like, practicing them, some over and over, like I'm whispering, and finally putting a string of my favorites together in a medley. I can't sing, I wish i could, but what I do is satisfying, and sometime feel I have a listener.
Your singing must be about like mine. When I sing, my children say, "Mama, ….don't quit your day job."
For me, it's almost like a daily thing that something will come along and get at you, one way or another. But I do have good days too. Yesterday Marie and I drank wine and played some music and sang some songs out loud to our neighbors and it was fun for us, not too sure about neighbors yet. But it really seems to release stress like it did when I was a young man. How or what do you do, when stress is getting the better of you?
I find moving very stressful, never liked moving at all. Tried it as a job once didn't like that job at all. Good luck with finding a new place.
I called the two daughters while we partied and found out my singing days are over, of course I did it on mic so I had others who knew I need to hang up the mic. Daughter said,' I did a good Louie Louie ,though'. I used to do a pretty good Patsy Clines "Crazy, but then I was crazy to think I still could sing that one.
I'm very surprised I drank that much since I'm usually only good for half a beer last year or so, but not only did I get lit on the wine, I didn't get sick at all. And my diabetes level was lowest its been in years " `102" ? We started at 11am and I passed out at 5pm, it was fun while it lasted.
