When I was a mere lad, until I actually saw the words, my version of , “I want some figgy pudding” was piggy pudding.
When a little boy drew the Nativity, he added a big fat guy....who he identified as "round, John Virgin".
Well, here in Florida where there isn't much snow, the following mis-sung words might not be far off: In the meadow we can build a snowman, then pretend that he is sparse and brown… Or you could be singing about Rudolph's mean-spirited girlfriend: Olive, the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names…
It is actually “bells on bob-tails ring”, since most of the old time sleigh and cart horses had bobbed-off tails. I think that the bells actually went on the harnesses, and not on the horses’ tails, but they were called “bob-tails” . My mom and dad had an old set of sleigh bells that they used in the wintertime when they drove the horse and sleigh to town, and they were on a long piece of leather strap and fastened to the harness. Here is my mom getting the horse ready to go to town. You can see that there is some snow, but they are taking the wagon and not the sleigh.
I enjoy Christmas Carols. I think that even though they start playing them early in November, and we hear the same songs for at least two months, I still do not get tired of hearing them. Maybe because, most of the music we hear blasting from car windows, or even in stores is just not something that I really enjoy, I just like hearing the familiar Christmas songs. They don’t play the older carols as much as they did back in years past when Christmas was actually more of a religious celebration of the birth of Jesus, and not just a commercial holiday; but they still play them sometimes, and it just makes the dreary months of November and December a lot more festive . Since Bobby and I do not do a lot of Christmas shopping, we really are not out in the stores and hearing the Christmas music constantly, like the shoppers who are spending a lot of time in the malls, and hearing the Christmas music incessantly. Maybe, if we were doing that, I might get tired of it sooner, but I don’t think so.
Jingle bells Batman smells Robin laid an egg The Batmobile has lost it's wheel The Joker got away-ay............ My son, when little, would sing this version when we enjoyed caroling.
