I am humbled. Even after proofreading such a short statement I didn't catch the homonym.

You know, I had a friend who worked in asphalt. He was pretty good at it.

    He had road flairs.

    ps: English stinks.

    Getting back to shingles…
I am now taking 2 pills every 8 hours for the nerves.. It is helping and I am not in as much pain...
If this is all it will be, I am grateful for the vaccine.. I can't say it is pleasant, but it isn't as bad as some of the cases I hear about..

Next will be the rash healing and the itching starts. :D The fun never seems to end with shingles! I'm glad the medication is helping.

I sometimes have a burning itch which is annoying as I can't scratch it..
Many of my lesions have a head to them.. Not very many blisters, only about 2 or 3..

Reading the stories here from so many made me wonder how common this is. I mean, what are the odds that so many on this forum have had/do have shingles? So I went to the CDC website:

1 in 3????????? I had no idea. Makes me glad I got the vaccine.

Here's a graph showing incidence by age group by year, and how the incidence among younger people is increasing while it seems to be plateauing among older adults:

The article did not discuss the possibility that when people contract this at a younger age, it lessens the likelihood of an occurrence in their later years.

Edit to add: It's only been 25 years since a chicken pox vaccine became available.

So is there anything topical you can put on it to relieve the itch?

Man, reading all this is making me paranoid.

Actually, NO..... it is a burning itch and the only thing that will help it is the nerve pill..
    Yes it really helps....
You can't in NO way scratch the lesions..

John, don't hesitate to get the vaccine.. No matter the cost, it is a million times better than getting a full blown case of the shingles...

When I get that 'burning' itch I simply just rub the area with my hand until it is bearable.(presently)

Last routine visit to the doctor he discouraged the shingles vaccine. He didn't explain and I forgot to ask why. My mother said she thought I never had chicken pox, but wasn't sure. On the chance I didn't, I'm going to skip it, unless the doc changes his mind.

He did stress the pneumonia vaccine. I wonder if it would help if you got "the virus"?

    @Beth Gallagher

Well, I have had to adjust my daily existence to a different kind of expectation than the old happy-go-lucky one. The spectre of serious bodily failure looms every time I let my mind wander to it. For example, could not take a vacation trip, or any kind of trip, for that matter, as kidney dialysis facilities cater to steady clientele, are usually overbooked. Without those treatments, I would be dead in < 2 weeks........

At least my faculties are relatively unscathed..............
