One of the things that has been happening while I have been away from the Forum has not been very pleasant for us. This was our view from our front porch...and now this is our view... Our Landlord is building some duplexes on the big lot open lot we loved so much. I understand that as a Landlord he is in the business of building rental properties which he makes his living on. When he bought the big lot I figured one day he would build himself a house on it or do exactly what he is doing now...build more rental units. My Honey and I are sad are beautiful view is gone, but we are thankful the oak trees didn't have to be cut down (although some of the limbs had to be cut) and praying for some good neighbors that might just become new friends too. I didn't know if I should put this under Home Improvement but decided it is a home improvement around our home that we just wish wasn't happening but are trying to think positive about.
Things are always changing...many call that progress...in this case I call it crowding the beauty out to make a buck.
That's too bad but I hope they'll be good neighbors. I live on a regular street with homes on both sides so I'm used to seeing houses across from me. What bugs me though is my neighbor who has lots of cars because now the kids are driving too and he parks right in front of my house which is legal...I don't own the street....but all I see now is a SUV, most of the time. I don't really mind that much because I'm seldom in the rooms that have the front view.
We loved sitting out on our front porch drinking our coffee, etc. and watching the birds feed from the feeders hung in the oak trees and looking out at all that spacious greenery. Now our view will be that duplex and I don't know if people living there will scare the birds away from coming to feed. I am going to buy shades for the porch to lower when we want more privacy on our porch. The duplexes that are being built will have no porches or patios and I don't see how anyone will like that. That is only the first duplex going up, the big lot will have at least four more. We thought about moving but this is Home to us with everything we need for the right price too. At our age and after spending so much time helping my daughter look for a new home...I just don't think I want to do that for us too unless we get neighbors that make living here "hell on earth."
If I sit outside, it's always in the back and that view will never change. You don't see anybody out front here.
Our front is our back too since we are part of a four plex unit with two on our side and two on the back of us.
Best wishes who ever moves in. I live around a better class of people at my apartment complex then I did when I owned that horrid house. I'd be unhappy with this and the unknown.
I am sorry to see your beautiful front yard and view be gone, @Babs Hunt , and I know that you are really going to miss it, even if you have good neighbors moving into the new duplex. I also hope along with you that the landlord finds good neighbors for you, and that will at least help make up for losing the view you have enjoyed all of this time.
Thank you Yvonne. I will just have to get in my car and go visit other beautiful views when I really miss ours.
