We only grocery shop once a month, and it's twice what we were paying. Even though we always shop for things like, buy one get one free. I agree about needing some kind of protection, these days. Dangerous world we live in. :)

We spent about half the day at the eye doctor; we both had eye exams and ordered new glasses. My cataracts have grown slightly but still not large enough for surgical intervention. The total for our glasses was nearly $2400... and we chose inexpensive frames! (Which is to say we chose the $150 frames instead of the $400 frames.) Thankfully we have vision coverage so our total co-pay was about $340 for both of us. I honestly don't know how people afford this stuff without insurance.

On our way home we stopped at the pool store and bought chlorine tabs and shock (another gasp over prices). Then we stopped at our favorite BBQ joint and brought home combo plates for dinner.

Now we are full and sleepy.

Today is a rainy day so we are putzing around in the house. Spent an hour resetting clocks and all my active Aerogardens. Better Half had planned to burn the burn pile at his mom's house but it's much too windy and rainy, so he's on the sofa watching football. We have had a really dry autumn so far, so the rain is a welcome change.

Late last night I encountered a baby gecko (or some type of small lizard) in the bathroom. I tried to catch him but he was too fast for me. I chased him all round the baseboard but he managed to run out into the bedroom and under the bed so I gave up the chase. I have no idea how he got in here, especially in a 2nd floor room...??? I'm sure I'll be vacuuming up a lizard skeleton in a few weeks. He will undoubtedly succumb to suffocation from dust bunnies under there.

We are still having rainy weather and I'm getting tired of gloomy days. Plus... it's still HOT. Where the heck is fall?? Stupid weather.

Oh goody... another new vehicle annoyance. Yesterday my husband put all the windows down in his truck while parked at our son's house (about an hour and a half from here.) When he got ready to come home, the rear passenger-side window would not roll up. He stopped at the local Ford dealer on the way and they couldn't do anything since it was late in the day. They did make an appointment for him to drop it off on Monday morning.

So in the meantime, we have taped a black plastic garbage bag to cover that window. Looks snazzy. o_O It's supposed to rain tomorrow and Monday so that will be exciting.

I checked online for any info on the window issue and found literally dozens of threads about this on the F150 forums. Apparently this issue started with the 2021 models and continues with new ones ever since. It is a defective power window controller and every truck with the problem has the EXACT same symptom... the rear passenger side window won't close. WHAT THE HECK.

They have been aware of the problem for four model years and have not corrected it? Apparently they have a warehouse full of the faulty controllers so they decided to keep installing them..?? I guess they are hoping that some owners won't put that window down, or that it will hang in there till the warranty expires.

We dropped the truck off to have the window fixed this morning. Coincidentally another F150 pulled in to have his window fixed. o_O Good job, Ford.

I am surprised that Ford is allowing this to go on. As I understand it, the F-150 sales are the only thing keeping Ford afloat right now. They took a real beating with their EVs and their cars are not selling well.

We picked up the truck this morning and so far, so good. They installed a new window control module or something, and it was covered under warranty. We also had the tires rotated and balanced, for which they charged $77... o_O

Discovered that the pool pump has crapped out so the Better Half went to buy a new pump and various gaskets, etc. to swap it out. $800 later and he's busy tinkering with it. This is the 3rd pump we have had on the pool system since 1996 so I guess that's not horrible. Seems like the last pump cost about half what this one did.

Speaking of pools, our next door neighbor is putting in a pool. His yard has been a hotbed of activity yesterday and today. It rained yesterday but roofers showed up and put a new roof on his house... in the rain. I have never seen such a thing.

While that was going on, a guy was busy digging the hole for the pool with a Bobcat and dump trucks were lined up on the street to cart the soil from the pool hole away. His yard looks like a huge mud pit, both front and back. Today a crew installed the forms for the concrete pour so it's moving right along. It's interesting living in a construction zone.

I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving and the end of November. Seriously... where did this year go?? Today was warm and sunny so I decided to wash my car. I spent a couple of hours on the driveway scrubbing and polishing... and got so hot I had to come inside and take a shower. I have been frazzled ever since.

It's going to be a quiet Thanksgiving this year. Our oldest daughter is having a gathering at her house (near Fort Worth), including my husband's ex, the shrew... so we declined that invitation. Other daughter, youngest son and their families will be there, too. Middle son is having a gathering at his place (Austin area). He invited us but DIL's large family and my ex and his wife will be there so we declined that invitation, too. :D Oldest son lives in Oregon so that's out of the question.

We just aren't in the mood for holiday traffic and assorted ex's. All these blended family situations can get hairy at holidays. Until my MIL died last year, holidays were always at her house so it seems kind of weird now that she's gone. So, we will go to a restaurant and come home to watch football. I expect to see most of the kids for Christmas so that will be good.

Thanks, G. I hope you and your husband have a nice Thanksgiving.

With all our kids, it's strange to be having just the 2 of us for a holiday, but they are all so scattered now and live so far away that it's hard to coordinate a family get-together. There are quite a lot of us what with kids, spouses, grandkids, step-kids, etc. and they are all trying to establish their own family holiday traditions. I'm glad they include us but it's so awkward with the ex's. My ex and I get along great but his wife has always disliked me and it just makes everyone uncomfortable so it's easier to just stay at home.

My husband and his ex do not get along at all and he won't go anywhere near where she is. She never cared to be a part of holidays while their 3 kids were growing up; she had no interest in her own children. (She abandoned him and them when they were toddlers.) Now that they are adults she is suddenly barging into family gatherings; I guess she is finally realizing what she missed out on for all those years, or else she is getting old and needs them to take care of her.

I expect to see most of them around Christmas. I wish they all lived closer to us but that's the way life goes I guess. It will be nice to have a relaxing day and not be standing in the kitchen!!

I was just thinking that my paternal grandfather died on Thanksgiving in 1972 of lung cancer. I can't believe he has been gone over 50 years! I was always sad that my children did not get to know him since he was long dead before they were born. He was such a character.

    Holidays always make me melancholy.
