    Australian company EcoJet Engineering is developing a micro gas turbine that works with renewable sources to take households off the electricity grid.

    The project aims to replace diesel generators typically used to provide electricity to units in the field.

    The prototype unit is only about 10 per cent of the weight of a typical internal combustion diesel generator and can be configured to run on a range of liquid and gaseous fuels including propane, natural gas and diesel.

    EcoJet plans to use its technology to develop a commercial product for households and industry to complement existing technologies such as solar panels and battery storage.

    Thanks @ Craig Swanson
    These would be very handy in hurricane country. Are you showing a 1 kilowatt unit? What is the voltage output?

    @Jerry Adams
    I should think the device shown is only the engine part; a small flywheel appears attached on the back side, out of view. It would in use drive a generator of electricity. The one KW marking signifies the power output of the engine, where 1 KW would be a tad more than 1 HP (horsepower).

    I believe this is the complete 20kW prototype. It is about 1meter long.
