Beautiful song. It wasn't that popular when it came out, but most think it's Sam Cooke's best song. He wrote it.

Some of you may appreciate these current-day protest songs, while others may be triggered. Relevant for today, these are excellent. Sort of Dylanesque, but moving.

Those are very relevant to where we are at right now, @Ken Anderson . I actually liked the style , sort of reminiscent of the protest songs from back in the early 60’s.
I enjoyed Peter, Paul, and Mary, and some of the others who did protest songs back then.
I guess I should add one of my favorite protest songs from back in those bygone days, just to give everyone here a little chuckle.

Nobody writes and sings protest songs like the legendary Pete Seeger!

I know there's a GenX guy on my diary site who holds his parents' generation to blame for 'ruining' the country and society and the economy and so forth, and who regards Woodstock as emblematic of the Boomers supposed self-indulgence and greed.

But when I look at that footage what I see is a bunch of scared kids dancing in the face of death, defiantly staring down the war mongering bankers and defense contractors and arms dealers before being taken.

Even after all these years, and despite the fact that I didn't lose anyone to Vietnam, I still cry when I hear Country Joe sing that song.
