You have heard the phrase once in a blue moon well the 30th of this month will be a blue moon. A blue moon is the second full moon in a month and February has no full moon. Also March has a blue moon also. I guess once in a blue moon is not rare this year.
Come to think of it, a blue moon might make a good bolo. I will look for that blue moon and make a wish upon it.
I'll still make a wish on the 30th, it's my daughter's birthday, I'll look fo the moon the night after.
This is a rare event. It's a super moon, a lunar eclipse and a blue moon all in one. During the eclipse, the moon will appear to be reddish, called a blood moon. The last time this happened was 150 years ago. The eclipse starts at 6:48 EST. Those on the west coast will have a better view of it.
I'm getting ready to watch it over here in about 15 minutes...the sky is as clear as can be so we should get a really good view of it. I'm taking pictures with my camera and hoping I get some decent shots.
Here's the best I could do with my camera. I love when the tree branches add a touch of "artistry' to the shots. It was really interesting to see the lunar esclipse on one side...and the sunrise beginning on the other. I actually did see some blue haze to the moon...but my camera is not sharp enough to pick that up.
Sometimes, we are able to see the moon at the same time as the sun is out, depending on the rotation schedules, although we usually think of the moon as something we see at night, and the sun in the day. When we do see the sun and moon at the same time, often the moon is almost invisible in the sky, unless the sun is either rising or setting so that it is not as bright and hiding the moon. When it is daylight on this side of the world, it is nighttime on the other side of the world. So, at the times when we are seeing a moon during the day, does this mean that the other side of the world is having a night with no moon at all ?
"Blue Moon, You saw me standing alone, Without a dream in my heart, Without a love of my own." Yvonne, the Moon is a real, physical object that occupies only one place on the sky at a time. Therefore, when the Western Hemisphere has a Moon in its sky, the Eastern Hemisphere cannot until the Earth makes 1/2 turn . Hal
