A friend once told me that having a grandson named after you allows a II to be added to his name.

Thus Mortimer Snodgrass II is the Grandson of Mortimer Snodgrass, not his Son.

    This doesn't work for a Son...only a Grandson.

To achieve a Mortimer Snodgrass III, the Grandson's Grandson would be the required descendant.

    (I didn't pass Geneology 101)

I have the same first name as my dad but not the exact whole name which would include the middle name.
If I had the exact whole name then I would have a II behind my name to distinguish between my dad and I.

I never heard of it being applied to grandsons but what the heck, just because I never heard of it doesn’t mean much so........why not.

I think that the second or II can be used by any family member with the exact same name as an elder in the family. It could be a son, nephew, cousin, grandson, etc...
