The march "forward" in this technology has been amazing. Each new technical development, making the results of the inventors more desirable than those past, has resulted in the creation of miraculous strides in the Sciences of Electronics, those achievements mostly lost upon the masses, but extravagantly exploited by the developers, who saw the opening needed to sell "new and better" to replace "old and out-dated".

Dick Tracy would have been overwhelmed, given his "wrist-radio". Remember that?

I use to work for a company that made big Processing equipment like that. Would sell to Coca Cola, Frito-Lay and other large companies.

they were used as early as WWII on subs, called the TDC, torpedo data computer

The American Torpedo Data Computer (TDC) was a far more sophisticated device. In addition to the standard angle solver, it also included a real-time target tracking system, or “position keeper.” The TDC was linked to the targeting systems in the torpedo rooms, allowing continuous data updates right up to the moment of firing. removing human error
