Anyone taking note of what is happening in Myanmar, the former Burma, in the month since the top generals of the nation's army launched a sudden coup against its elected leader. Peaceful protestors are now being gunned down. Yes live ammunition.. not only rubber bullets, tear gas or water cannon. Violence and repression is the usual reaction dictators use when cornered.

International condemnation to this brutality has fallen on deaf ears. The generals are saying "they can live with" economic sanctions against them. Of course they can in their luxury mansions while the average Burmese lives from hand to mouth.

The US and EU has threatened Myanmar's pseudo leaders with "greater action". No one is sure what that means. The UN needs to show it is more than a toothless tiger too but as usual its hands are tied by inaction, nay distain, by autocratic Russia and China who say the incident is a "Myanmar internal security matter" and have vetoed any additional action against the generals.

Repressive regimes such as the Myanmar generals and Lukashenko's Belarus will continue to ride roughshod over democracy as long as these two dictatorial states remain a UN member.

Sleepy Joe said this on Monday.
The United States was "taking note of those who stand with the people of Burma in this difficult hour.
We will work with our partners throughout the region and the world to support the restoration of democracy and the rule of law, as well as to hold accountable those responsible for overturning Burma's democratic transition."

Thems real fighting words.. I dont say.

Yep typical political rhetoric. If the UN has its hands tied by those recalcitrant states then what about the International Criminal Court becoming involved. The ICC is the world body that prosecutes individuals for international crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression. The Myanmar generals are responsible for all of those.. plus those perpetrated against the Rohingya people several years ago.

I used to follow international affairs more closely than I do these days, being a long-time reader of The Economist and Foreign Affairs.

I frequented a restaurant that was staffed by Burmese nationals and we would talk about what was going on back home. This was in the 1990s through 2010, during the Saffron Wars, that typhoon that killed so many, and other regional conflicts.

I used to observe that our social stability was such a fundamental requirement, and events in this century have caused me to see that others agree and endeavor to destroy it.

    Some interesting updates:
Joe was not asleep at the wheel on Feb 10 when he ordered the blocking of a transfer of $1 billion held at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to the Central Bank of Myanmar thus denying the hard line coup generals of much needed ready funds.

Separately, the U.S. Commerce Department on Thursday designated trading curbs on Myanmar’s Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs and military conglomerates MEC and MEHL, effective on March 8
The U.N. human rights investigator on Myanmar will this Friday urge the Security Council to impose a global arms embargo and further targeted economic sanctions.

Will China and Russia again put the kybosh on these moves. If they do they should be expelled from the UN.

You know, that "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" thing has a lot of merit to it. But that's most effective when managed properly, and the U.N. is not only a poor manager of things (to wit, its roster of Human Rights Commission heads), they may be one of the ones the U.S. wants to "keep closer."

The riots will end when the Clinton and Soros run out of money. Myanmar was a major child trafficking hub.

Those murdering generals, without a remorseful bone in their bodies, have now ordered their police and military forces to kill people while burying their dead.

Myanmar security forces opened fire at a funeral on Sunday, witnesses said, as people across the country gathered to mourn 114 people killed, including six children between the ages of 10 and 16, the previous day in the worst crackdown on protests since the military coup on Feb. 1.

This is a disgrace and all the international community can do is condemn it in words while those generals are given carte blanche to continue their murderous tyranny.

Xi Ping and Putin need to take a good look at themselves as it is they alone that are allowing this despicable act to continue with impunity.

Be for you put down the military action look at the money behind the people upraising. Clinton foundation Soros and the like they claimed the took Soros's money but I bet there is a lot more in play. The do not want to loose their child trafficking head quarters in that area of the world. I know the only information that comes out is through the media and can you really trust them.

Here is a video from Yugoslavian who went through the same thing that is going on in the US right now and the blind fold put over American eyes to control them.
