Also...I hope this isn’t off topic or too personal but I also have back issues...especially that area and your post kind of triggered some anxiety for me.

Can you give a little info about how she realized the problem and is surgery the only option etc.

I used to volunteer in the surgery waiting room at St Agnes and sometimes it would take awhile for them to call me and say that I can send someone over..first the dr would drop by and talk to the family member...loud enough for everyone on the floor to hear :)

Some drs would ask the person to step outside the room.

Okay, she is fine. Her back still hurts but the surgery was successful. She's a bit loaded and is going to sleep for a while so I went back to the hotel to get some work done, since I'll be doing some of her hours this week, as well.

I told her we were taking bets on whether she'd make it through the surgery.

"I lost ten bucks, but I'm still glad you made it."

Sorry Chrissy, I missed this before. She went through a bunch of other stuff before being referred to a neurosurgeon after the pain became unbearable. She has tried several painkillers and muscle relaxers, chiropractic care, injections of some sort, and probably some things that I can't remember. At one time, they were going on the theory that it was a muscle spasm. The neurosurgeon described the pain precisely before it was confirmed through an MRI. That said, as of about an hour ago, she was still hurting. Hopefully, this will get better overnight because she is supposed to be discharged in the morning.

OMG, I'm sorry to hear she's currently hurting Ken, because the anaesthetic shouldn't have worn off yet, which should have given her probably 24 hours pain free..
Hopefully tho' as with most other surgeries, as each day passes with some help from appropriate PK's, she'll finally feel relief from the pain!!

She's awfully discouraged right now because she's supposed to go home tomorrow but she still can't walk. By that, I don't mean to say that she's paralyzed or physically incapable of walking or anything but that the pain is as bad as before, or worse. I am praying that a night's sleep will do wonders.

I think things will improve markedly overnight, but she probably needs pain meds for about 5 days.
