Prior to my Grandfathers death, he went to our family cemetery plot and had all of the grave markers replace, they where decaying and went back to the 1800's.

My Great Grandfather was a Civil War Veteran and was buried there.

Back in early 2000 I did a lot of research on our family..This past year, I have been having a lot of thoughts/dreams about my Great Grandfather and his grave. I do not know if he had a Civil War Veteran's Marker prior to my Grandfather replacing the stones!!

This morning I again was awakened from a dream to get it replaced!! I got on the computer and with very little search found a website, in his state of burial, they may help getting a marker.. I sent them an e mail..

    Am I being haunted ??

Oh wow, I do wonder if your subconscious mind is wandering to something that your conscious mind can't remember to do. Maybe once you find out about the Civil War Marker and have it installed you will stop dreaming of it. Have you had any other visions of your Great Grandfather? Any while you are awake? That would be pretty scary. Let us know what you find out about the marker. Maybe even that will be enough to ease your Great Grandfather.

I am glad you got a response and so quickly too. Perhaps they will get on it quickly and your dreams will change to happy thoughts. I have never been spirit visited but my son has. When he was young my Nanie was very sick with bone cancer. He was her shining light and they bonded. He spoke to her for years after she passed. He is 31 now so he is not as open to believing but just hearing him speak to her when he was young brought me and my Mom a sense of peace with Nanie's passing. Keep us informed of your progress with the marker. I am hoping it leaves you with a more restful sleep.

:oops:What a nice thing you're doing for your Great Grandfather! I don't know if you're being haunted though. There is a grave sight locally that is in disarray and hasn't been kept up and not maintained.

I have made arrangements, with a friend who lives close to the cemetery, to place the marker on his grave. Maybe now we both can rest in peace... 001.gif

I don't use the word haunted as I like "visited" better :) but I wouldn't be at all surprised if your great grand father came to you and I think it's real nice of you to order the marker for him. A few people in my family have been visited by those who have passed on and I always tell them just be glad the person didn't say "See you soon." :)

Have you heard from your great grand father or anyone else since then Ken? I find this interesting and wish someone I know would visit me.

My friend has not yet got out to the cemetery (50 miles from him) to place the marker yet. He sent me an e mail that he will be going that way soon to visit his son. He will contact me and show pictures of how and where to place it....Stay tuned..

When someone is asleep their subconscious takes over. I believe that this makes it easier for the spirit world to contact us. Like you I have been visited by loved ones who have passed in dreams. I try to remember what they said to me in the dream because I think of this as a message from beyond. It's nothing though to be afraid of, and it certainly isn't being haunted, I tend to think of it as being visited.

I am glad you cared about this. It could be also in some way connected to respect. As those of us who are getting older may be getting closer to "shuffling off this mortal coil" to coin a phrase, maybe respecting, a resting place of an elderly relative could be a symbol of how we wanted to be treated to the younger generation when no longer here. It is great it is all working out for you in terms of the marker. I want to be cremated personally, but a small marker or plaque commerorating, my life might be nice.

@K E Gordon Thank you for the reply..

My wife and I also will be cremated and I have found out that our ashes can be buried in my parents grave where my brother's ashes are already there. Our names and info will be added to the headstone of my parents. (one stone per grave).

My husband's cousin who was a Catholic nun was murdered, in Mercy Hospital chapel, 1980. This was a cold case in Toledo, Ohio. I didn't know her, but getting dreams and her voice that said,"Find My Murder So I Can Rest In Peace." This bothered me because I wasn't of the Catholic faith, and I didn't know her. Then the dream. She went into the chapel, cleaning for Palm Sunday. She was sitting, when a man dressed as a nun was behind her. He choked her and stabbed her 32 times. This occurred 4 times in these dreams and her voice. I could tell in the dreams the contour was a man. He had black hair on his arm, and he was a white man. The murder weapon had a rounded point, not a knife. I though enough, and called Crime Stoppers. The first thing I said, I don't want you to think I'm nuts. Told the investigator the whole story. He got excited and wanted to know if I seen his face? That part was a blur. Then he said, to put your mind at ease, we are looking for a white male. She never came back, mission finished.

2006 My youngest son turned 23, and his birthday is 23rd. of April. His father's birthday was, 23rd of March. I had a get together for him. Busy with party food, and the news was on.Toledo,Ohio was mentioned, and I seen a priest with cuffs on.I let out a scream, I know Him! We had gone to her funeral. He partook in the service. And we shook hands with him. They found the murder weapon a letter opener. A woman came forward, who was abused by this priest. This opened the cold case, with lots of red flags. He was found guilty and spent his time in a southern Ohio jail till his death. In the trial it was brought out about Satanic Ritual and a priest was brought in from Chicago and testified about this behavior. The woman who was abused, had to partake in many of these rituals as a child. She never knew sister. RIP Sister Margaret Pahl

We have a saying here that dead people can communicate with the living via a dream. And to think that it was your great grandfather whom I suppose is not that very close to you unlike your grandfather, I have the inclination to believe that he is saying something to you. In our country, a grave is a sacred place especially to the older generation. They believe that the resting place of the earthly body should be taken care of and to be considered as the memorial for the dead relative.

You are a great, Great-Grandson, Ken! I see that your Great Grandfather died at the age of 52. The years carved on his stone (1842 - 1894).......the "dash" between the years, represent Wallace's dash through life! We all get a dash through life, and a full life is not always measured in years.;) Thanks for the thread.

That is one of the things that you can notice when you go a cemetary. When you think about the dash, I think we all dash through life to a certain extent when you see a headstone, I think it can remind you of how briefly you might be alive.
