My Crown I got my crown from Jesus, it was such a grand surprise, sat down at His banquet, just couldn't believe my eyes.. I saw Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, they were all attending the feast but; "why am I here Sweet Jesus?, I am not even yet deceased". I saw my mother in the corner talking with my brother, Rick…. she is no longer disabled, "where's her walking stick?" dear old dad seemed young again, he sported a glorious crown and my sister liked to play dress-up, wearing her wedding gown. Moses was there, he looked the same as I pictured all these years.. he spoke to me with gentleness and told me to dry my tears. My crown was rather heavy, it didn't seem to fit just right, I spoke to Jesus quietly, I couldn't understand the night….. Allison, my darling daughter, please remove your crown, it is not your time to be here……go back to your small town…. Finish the work I gave to you, hold your head up high.. tell your friends about Me and how they need not die. Tell them about the cross, how I paid for all their sin. Give me your crown - I'll hold it for you……… it will fit you better THEN. © Allison Schuck, Friday, February 27, 2015: 6:25 pm
Very inspiring poem @Allison Schuck! How many times we forget the meaning of Jesus crown if bring it into our own lives, right? Thanks for sharing it with us
If you have anymore I would love to read them. It's so hard to find good poetry anymore that isn't filled with artsy, flakey, nonsensical blathering. Your poem had sincerity, and that makes it even more beautiful!
I've loved good poetry since the First time I read "The Raven". I tried to write some and I realized I don't have that certain something poets have... eloquence, maybe? I believe the key to good poetry is being able to bring your audience into that place with you. I don't mean make the reader understand how someone felt, but actually make them feel it for themselves. The poem I read already forced me to feel those emotions. I guess this is the long winded version of why I think your poem was beautiful. You really do have that knack.
