Murder By Contract (1958) - Vince Edwards, Herschel Bernardi, Phillip Pine

Directed by Irving Lerner. A low budget black and white B film shot in 8 days in Los Angeles. Film Noir, 80 minutes, good quality on YouTube.

Claude decides to become a hit man so he can afford to buy a house on the Ohio River. [IMG]

Note: I was drawn to this movie only in anticipation of the eye candy (Ben Casey), so I might be biased.

I enjoyed it because it is different. A mixture of humor and cold-blooded ruthlessness. A lot of information is left untold, but leaving you to wonder and speculate. I liked its unpredictability, including the end. Your mileage may certainly vary.

"Part of the film's reputation lies in its influence on director Martin Scorsese, who cites it as the one that has influenced his approach to filmmaking the most, and praises its economy of style and its ability to communicate a lot of information using just images.

Even the music is different. Reminiscent of The Third Man/Zorba the Greek.
