There are always more ads that I hate than ones I love, although there are a few I really like on television right now. This is definitely not one of them. It's obvious that it was created by someone young who is trying to be hip and edgy, but all it does is turn me off to the school and anything and anyone related, including the singer who chose to sing the song.

It's a University of Phoenix song that lauds how hard the singer works and recounting various scenarios of working more than one job, having children, having been in the military, etc., to show how well rounded the student body is, and apparently railing over their inability to be hired because their degrees are from U of Phoenix, because employers are stupid and can't see beyond the name of the school.

I hate those insurance ads where the girl named her car Brad, and similar versions. They say they won't raise your rate after your first accident. What they don't mention is they just charge a higher rate to start with.

I have come to the opinion that many adverts are deliberately meant to irritate so that they stick in the brain like that annoying 'earworm' you can't shift

There are plenty of bad ads on television most of the time. What really gets to me are infomercials stuck in the middle of regular programing. They are irksome enough on their own paid time slots, but to put them in the middle of a show is loathsome to me. I pay alot of money for my cable service, no one should have to suffer through an infomercial ad in order to finish watching something that they want to see the end of.

Here in the UK, infomercials are considered pretty amusing and greeted with cynicism. Even real public information films are viewed ( sorry for the pun) with scepticism.

@Diane Lane yes, I'm really tired of that "if you only had a brain" working single mom taking college courses commercial.

IMO, the unending stream of ads presented by legal firms guaranteeing folks their "entitled share" of monies largely extracted through dubious claims and tactics, are the worst of all.

@Diane Lane. Again we are on the same page;). There are quite a few commercials that I just don't get the point no matter how much I see them. To piggy back after Sheldon, I don't like that commercial either. They could have left the "Brad" part out completely.

@Von Jones. I think part of the advertiser's bag of tricks is just that; to make you wonder what an earth the ad was about, so that the brain processes the information as though it were significant and the product or service important. In this way when we go out to buy widgets we are drawn to the xyz brand due to their ads. We feel there is something special about them , even though, of course, this has no logical basis

I do enjoy the cat ads with Katherine Heigl, I find them amusing. If an ad amuses me or draws me in with pleasant visuals or sounds, I am more likely to remember it and associate it with positive things. If I find it amusing, I will discuss it with others, which is a positive thing for the company, because it inspires curiosity in others.

If an ad (such as this one) irks me, I will avoid the product and brand, and also complain about it on social media. I know some feel there's no such thing as bad publicity, but we've all seen how negativity can taint brands, so I think that mindset needs to change. I find some of the tactics, including those used in this particular commercial in the OP to resemble bullying tactics, which definitely make me want to distance myself from the brand.

There's a nice one here (U.K.) at the moment advertising a bank using the cartoon Topcat. The animation and a regional accent make it appealing

Post a link if you'd like @Harry Kemp, I'm sure some here would like to see the ad.

Here's a link with some information about Katherine Heigl's choice to team up with Cat's Pride Litters. If you keep watching, there's at least one commercial, so if you haven't seen them and would like to, you can watch it there. Apparently she's a cat lover, which I hadn't previously known, although I always enjoy her performances, whether in a movie, on a TV show, or in the commercials. http://www.fastcocreate.com/3058005...pist-in-these-new-cats-pride-kitty-litter-ads

OK, Diane, it's well worth a post and I'm sure the Halifax won't object:

Anyone 50+ will probably enjoy it.

I hate that guy dressed as a construction worker in the Aspen Dental commercials. He lost his dentures under 23 tons of cement. So, he goes to Aspen Dental, gets right in, gets his dentures in time for a very important event. A hot dog eating contest.

I'm being sarcastic here: They do disclose it by saying for those with "accident forgiveness" hoping no one will catch that I'm sure.

I dislike all their advertisements except for the "perfect" couple.

@Harry Kemp I really enjoyed it as well, and I'm glad I watched it, because I have been meaning to price metal barrels online, but had forgotten until I saw the end of the ad. I am considering getting a burn barrel, since my paper shredder broke.

Now that sounds a very interesting way of disposing of waste paper! I was puzzled by why I was worried about the procedure and then I remembered an ex-girlfriend who insisted on destroying any confidential paperwork and we hit on burning it in a metal box. Not the brightest of ideas, I assure you! But a professionally made one should be fine.

I am searching for a very funny advert that was on the television about 5 years ago. If I can find it I will post that one!

After a ridiculous amount of research I found the advert I was looking for, to me it's funny and laughably silly at the same time:

The one I hate the most, and it doesn't seem like it's going away anytime soon, is the commercial for that No-No hair removal product.
The reason I hate it is that irritating vocal mess known as 'uptalking.' GAHHHHH!!!!!!

I don't know anything about the product, but the commercial makes you want to stick your fingers in your ears and go 'Lalalalalaaa!'

I pity all Americans for having to put with " Now a word from our sponsors" in the middle of a favourite programme (program). Do they still do that?

I just don't like the commercial about the family doing the Progressive Ins. commercials at all. They hardly speak about the ins. company, their services so I just don't like this type of commercial. I don't like the Progressive commercial that Flo tones down because people says she is perky...just nonsense again, but I do like the commercials that shows Progressive shows what they cover with all the cars, boats, motorcycles ...going by.
